There is no bolt action rifle flow chart because bolt action rifles cannot be assault weapons per CA law.

Per federal law, the minimum requirement for your bolt action rifle is 16" barrel and 26" overall length.

California PC 12020 limits rifles minimum length to 26". There is a separate federal law as well. If you get busted in this state it is almost certainly going to be PC 12020, not the federal law version. This is completely separate from the AW definition limit at 30" for centerfire semi-autos.

http://law.onecle.com/california/penal/12020.html

(a) Any person in this state who does any of the following
is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year
or in the state prison:
(1) Manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the
state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives,
lends, or possesses any cane gun or wallet gun, any undetectable
firearm, any firearm which is not immediately recognizable as a
firearm, any camouflaging firearm container, any ammunition which
contains or consists of any flechette dart, any bullet containing or
carrying an explosive agent, any ballistic knife, any multiburst
trigger activator, any nunchaku, any short-barreled shotgun, any
short-barreled rifle, any metal knuckles, any belt buckle knife, any
leaded cane, any zip gun, any shuriken, any unconventional pistol,
any lipstick case knife, any cane sword, any shobi-zue, any air gauge
knife, any writing pen knife, any metal military practice
handgrenade or metal replica handgrenade, or any instrument or weapon
of the kind commonly known as a blackjack, slungshot, billy,
sandclub, sap, or sandbag.
...............
(2) As used in this section, a "short-barreled rifle" means any of
the following:
(A) A rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in
length.
(B) A rifle with an overall length of less than 26 inches.
(C) Any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration,
modification, or otherwise) if that weapon, as modified, has an
overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less
than 16 inches in length.
(D) Any device which may be readily restored to fire a fixed
cartridge which, when so restored, is a device defined in
subparagraphs (A) to (C), inclusive.
(E) Any part, or combination of parts, designed and intended to
convert a device into a device defined in subparagraphs (A) to (C),
inclusive, or any combination of parts from which a device defined in
subparagraphs (A) to (C), inclusive, may be readily assembled if
those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same
person.

umm, its right here, http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf . The flowchart covers ALL rifles.

illegal

http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.htmlincorrect, consult the flowchart.

I think barrels have to be over 16". Overall length over 30".only for semi-automatic centerfire rifles. consult the flowchart.

There is no bolt action rifle flow chart because bolt action rifles cannot be assault weapons per CA law.

Per federal law, the minimum requirement for your bolt action rifle is 16" barrel and 26" overall length.the current flowchart covers bolt action rifles. Correct on the lengths you mentioned.

correct, the 30" rule only applies to semi-auto centerfire rifles lest they be considered an AW. the 26" rule applies to ALL rifles, lest they be considered an SBR.

For those that weren't aware, the rifle flowchart was updated to cover ALL rifle types, not just semi-auto centerfire rifles.

My real question is why do you want a 26" bolt action rifle? My understanding is the size of a bolt action generally allows you to have longer distance and better accuracy. Or atleast that is what it seemed like from all of the WWII weapons that are out there for purchase even now adays.

Longer barrels allow slower burning powder to burn while still in the barrel pushing the bullet forward. Powder still burning after the bullet has left the barrel doesn't do much. Modern powders burn quicker, and don't require 30" barrels(well, also rounds that can use less powder, better trajectories, etc.)

Back packing a 26 rifle would be great. I am surprised bull pull/folding remington 700 have not been sold.
