I was wondering if any of you could clear up some questions I had.

Last week I went to the local gun store and purchased 3 guns(1 pistol-used, 1 pistol-new, 1 rifle-new). The owner had me fill out 3 seperate dros forms and charged me 3 times for the dros fee. When I asked why he said that "on pistols, they require us to fill them out seperately". Is this true? I have never purchased more than 1 pistol at a time so I'm not familiar with this.

Also I over heard him answering a guy on the phone that wanted to have a gun transferred into that store from an out of state dealer, that he(the buyer) would have to pay taxes on the gun if the gun was brand new. Is that true too? I thought that was the beauty of buying out of state.

Yes, each pistol, especially an inventory gun and a PPT gun must have seperate DROSes and you must pay the full price on each. If you're doing multiple PPT pistol DROSes, the fee after the first one is reduced.

As for taxes, yes he may collect taxes on purchases out of state that are transferred through him. A dealer may also opt to not collect these taxes, and in this circumstance, you are required to pay the tax on your California State Income Tax Return..

As for taxes, yes he may collect taxes on purchases out of state that are transferred through him. A dealer may also opt to not collect these taxes, and in this circumstance, you are required to pay the tax on your California State Income Tax Return..The BOE claims that the dealer is the retailer so the dealer must collect CA sales tax unless the purchaser can prove they already paid tax on the firearm. Of course not all dealers do this so it sort of depends on where you go.

As Xeno already said, the DROS situation was correct.

I think you could have tossed the long gun on one of those pistol DROS??
Technically, they can all go on one 4473 fed form.
