View Full Version : Bore sighting new scope installation

I did do a search and didn't turn up an answer so forgive me as this must have been asked before.

It seems the standard recommendation for initial sight in is 25 yds. then shoot 100 yds. and adjust. Does this make sense or has anyone found that this isn't the way to go?

I'll be using a laser bore sight tool to sight in with.

Like I've said MANY times, just zero your scope at the distance you plan on shooting it. It only takes one shot for me to zero (within +/- 1moa) a newly mounted scope at 1000 yards (or any distance). I normally take a second shot to fine tune and a third to confirm. But, why anyone would waste time and money trying to use a laser boresighter is beyond me.

I don't know if you're semi or bolt action but you can remove the bolt and look through the barrel and put that on target. Then look through the scope and adjust accordingly. That's how you can bore sight it and get it on paper with your first shot. I've done it like that with my ar and my bolt guns.
