I have read some references to a letter the DOJ released about thier opinion of the Prince 50 or some other mag fixing device. They approved this in thier letter. I can't find that letter. Does anyone have copy they can post or a link to that letter?
Thanks,
T.

I don't think they've ever opined on the mag lock kits. If memory serves, they chose to not take a position on the Sporting Conversions Kit and have just stalled on the Prince-50.

They have not sent any letters of opinion for the current line of mag-lock kits. If anything they've sent letters stating that they didn't think they were legal, and the proprietors of those products wouldn't post those, if they did receive them.

Ok. I thought I read somewhere that the DOJ sent a letter that said something about the magazine requiring a tool to remove it...
Someone else mentioned something about the DOJ's early opinion on it.
Oh well, thanks.

I submitted my lock to CAL DOJ in mid February. I sent a sample with an epoxied in screw, and one with just a free spinning screw. These samples were sent to Iggy Chinn directly. He stated they would be sent to an independant lab. To date, I have not heard back from the DOJ, approving or not approving my design.

As stated, my design complies with the law as written. Now they (DOJ) are trying to change that language.

We'll see if we can stop it. Folks better than I, have written very good letters. Please copy them (As permitted by the authors) and send them in to express your dismay with this sneaky tactic.

It's rather interesting that Iggy & crew submits this to a private lab...

How the hell does a private lab determine matters of legality - ain't that the job of the premiere law enforcement body in the state (AG/DOJ)?

Talk about confessions of IGnorance...

Let us know if you hear anything more, Darrin...

If I recall correctly Darin Prince was very vocal a while back about being very forthcoming about anything and everything pertaining to his mag lock kit. I remember because I was still selling the Sporting Conversions kit at the time and I thought he was going about it the wrong way. I thought it was better to just follow the law and not get DOJ approval than to submit for DOJ approval and get a letter stating no. He disagreed and vowed to fight it and demand proof and so on and so forth. I don't see the manufacturers of these CA legal products as greedy cut throats who would subject their customers to possible legal trouble. And that is the exact reason why I didn't think we needed to get a letter for approval. I would have stopped selling any magazine kits that the DOJ declared illegal. This current situation is a little different because the DOJ is proposing a change and it is evident from past examples of the Barrett M82 that kits like the ones I sell were legal prior to the OLL debacle. They are just tossing sour grapes.

Thankfully we received nothing back either way and nothing has changed. Nothing will change. This regulation change won't go through for many more months and my suspicion is we will see a list before we see the regulation change. I could be wrong.

If we're successful at opening a new comment period it could take another 15+ days or another 45+15+ days and I think we have better than even odds to get another comment period.

That likely takes us into 2007. AB2728 means DOJ can't list in any way or form after the New Year.

Wes - I still want you to take my bet on listing. I'd love to take some of your money :p

I'd say chances are %100 that Iggy got back the results from the "independent lab" and they said the lock was legal. Maybe he just "forgot" to let you know.:D

I wonder if there is any type of FOI you could file to get the results.

If the maglock wasn't legal, I bet they sure would have told you in a hurry.
