I am thinking to add a compensator on my Ar, is it legal in CA? which one do you prefer or works well?
Thank you very much

I run the battlecomp 1.0, little pricey but well worth it!

Personally using a Yankee Hill Phantom on one of mine. Got it for $25 at Riflegear.

+1 here too. I run a BC 1.5 on my 14.5" Daniel Defense Middy. No muzzle jump at all!!!

Compensators / brakes are legal.

The BC line is excellent, but if you're on a budget, the YHM Phantom's not a bad one.

Running a BattleComp 1.0 on my mid-length BCM upper, great stuff.

for the price they can't be beat.. are there better designs.. yes.. but they come at a much higher price.. and on an ar15 the recoil is not bad enough to warrant one of the higher priced better working designs..

if you want a good brake at 1/4 the cost i suggest the battle comp

I didn't like all the back-blast I had with my PWS on my 6.8.

I am very happy with the Surefire MB556K on my AR right now, but I'd hate to destroy it getting it off my 14.5" BCM to put on a BC 1.5 that I really want.

I run these... http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=276 ... not very sexy but it works surprisingly well.
... and when I am hunting I use this... http://www.parts4ar15.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/GS-01.jpg ...less noise when shooting without "ears".

Most compensators make the AR very side-blasty. The shorter the barrel, the blastier it gets. The BattleComp is supposed to reduce the blast to yourself and bystanders, and I think it accomplishes this by having numerous, very fine side ports.

I've seen the BattleComp in action once. It was a 3-gun match, and the BattleComp was installed on a pistol AR. Maybe the BattleComp was working, but that gun was still the loudest and blastiest gun at the match.

I'm running mine with a .308 on an 18 inch barrel and it really isnt that bad...... from where I'm sitting.

All of us here at SI either have, Troy Claymore / Medieval, PWS, and a couple of Smith Vortex's.

All work great, then again I had an A2 birdcage and had no problem with that either :)

JP comp FTW. I finally shot one yesterday and it is by far the best comp I've shot. Recoil of a .22lr, hardly any muzzle blast and looks nice.

Spike's is coming out with a comp...

SJC Titan comp is what I'd go with. On a .308 you can spot your own shots, on a .223 it feels like you're shoting a .22lr!

If that spikes comes in under $150 Ill end up with one

PWS556 makes the AR feel like a .22 although it will blast everyone to the side of you. As far as blast back at the shooter I have no complaints on a 16" barrel.

Anybody have a link or chart to reference muzzle devices? I want to replace my A2 with something else but I want to keep it as short as possible. Its going on a 16". I really like the BC 1.0 but I was wondering if theres anything else(cheaper) I should consider. How about the VLTOR VC series?

the JP tact. muzzle brake is worth taking a look at, it made my .308 feel like a .223 and it'c cheper than a BC.

BC = Good flash, sound and muzzle rise suppression (Popular with LEO entry teams)
YHM Phantom = Great flash (better than BC) and muzzle rise suppression, ok sound suppression. Best bang for the buck at $30.

Youtube both and make your choice. That Spikes one looks like a BC but the flash comming out the end was a deal breaker for me.

My .02 cents

I love it. Was shooting prone unsupported and it barely kicked up any dirt.

probably the lowest felt muzzle rise out of any rifle I've shot.

None equipped<Springfield socom brake<<USGI m4 flash hider<<Vltor VC-1

I noticed a small amount of flash, but not as much as the video that's been posted here.

here's one of me trying the magwell grip ( i seriously couldn't get used to the MMG)
