Both local dealers I called will not accept it from a private party, they said it needs to be shipped from a dealer. WTF, is that the law? I'm trying to find a dealer in the Lodi/Manteca area that will accept the gun and tranfser it to me, but have had NO luck. This is crap:( I could have sworn only the recieving party needed to be an FFL.

WTF, the GunRoom in ElkGrove wont do the transfer because he says its a gun they can purchase and sell themselves. This is so frikin retarded.

You are correct. There only needs to be one FFL in the chain.

Some dealers just don't like to do this. Some of this is due to incorrect knowledge of laws, but some dealers don't want to possibly be screwed by folks sending in something illegal that may put them in a compromising situation.

Also, some dealers won't transfer another gun that they already have in inventory. Their logic: if you want a Brand X Model Y gun, buy the one in the case. They DO run a business, after all...

And lotsa dealers have had problems with folks doing orders of handguns that weren't on approved list, and they've ended up eating shipping costs returning the gun, etc. Some people don't understand the details of what is/isn't approved, and it's just not worth some dealers' time to educate their customers.

Bottom line: find another dealer, and one that will trust you. And be smart and don't make work/screw him over doing something stupid.

Yeah seems every dealer I call just wont even touch it, regardless of the gun etc. I know its on the approved list but that doesnt matter to them. Guess I will keep trying. Whats funny is that the dealer that did all my OLL transfers doesnt do these either. But he will mess with the OLL.

The SJ Gun Exchange will do it (at least they did one for me), but they're not really around the corner for you.

My FFL whom I've been using for years has no problem whatsoever accepting firearms from a private individual, of course as long as the gun is legal in this state.

JG

It sounds like you are in Sacramento area. Talk to Bob Venkus of the Forensic Studies Group. He does all of my transfers from out of state from private parties or not. He is also in the Sacramento area near the old Florin mall.

Rvenkus@comcast.net

He is also listed on Gunbroker.

Ps. Bill's right! It has to be on the list.

Or you could offer the seller to compensate him for using his FFL's services to ship the gun. Considering that would spare you from driving around the state looking for an FFL that would accept the transfer, that may be worth a little extra.

It really sucks that so many dealers do not want to do the into state transfers.
They want to sell there stock but all they need to do is charge an amount so they can still make some money and not have to inventory anything.
Seems like a good business move.

Not if it loosess business or clients; I wont use dude's that pull this crap. Hey- its thier business, but its MY buck which drives thier business...so I'll just take it elsewhere to those less shy of following the law....and more than willing to do a deal in state, outta state, whatever so long as it complies:)
