Amendment 2: A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Sorry. . . I was helping my wife re-learn sentence diagramming because she does private tutoring, and I came across this great "sample problem" :) We should put it in all the grammar text books.

AAUGH!!!!
Shades of Junior English in Mr. Garabedian's class at Memorial! I used to be able to diagram a sentence faster than anyone else, and I hated English class; still do, as a matter of fact.

Tiki, I'm with you.
That's a lovely drawing of lines with words.

Someone's got waaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands =P That's actually good because I'm tutoring ESL kids and I need to brush up on my sentence diagraming. I completly forgot about the dashed vertical line with the conjunctions.

Sentence diagramming? What the hell?
HAA haa. . . that's what my wife thought. . . "What the hell?" It makes you think about the structure of the sentence. Know where the subject, verb, adjectives, conjunctions, predicate adjectives, etc. are located and put them in relationship with each other. Every word in any sentence can be diagrammed.
After diagramming a bit, it's easier for people to write concise sentences that are properly structured. And then, most people internalize the process and forget how to diagramm w/ the lines, and also forget what all the sentence parts are called :)
I don't know if diagramming is part of the public school grammar corriculum anymore. These are private school kids. English being a second language for me, diagramming helped me make sense of the convoluted language.

I went to private school my whole life and I don't remember that crap. What I do remember is "Conjunction junction, what's your function..."
Haa Haa Haa.
Oh, and, "I'm just a bill. I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill..." :)
I think we should come up with our own song for a Saturday morning show. How about this for starters...
I'm being added to the law to add clarity
But, there is really only one reason for me,
It's plain and clear for everyone to see
I'm here because they screwed up SB23.
I'm supposed to be a proposed clarification,
But, I really am just adding obfuscation.
You see, anyone with half a brain,
Can see that I am only a temporary pain.
Everyone knows I will never pass,
I'm just here to cover someones ***.
I was written by some DOJ tools,
Who think that they don't have to follow the rules.
I'm being added to expand a law already written,
By a DOJ thats already been bitten.
They have tried before in the past,
But their efforts never last.
Because the DOJ is trying to make citizens crooks,
Even though the citizens follow the laws on the books.
So, since the DOJ can't get this right,
The citizens will continue the fight.
:p

Now all we have to do is get the Anti's and liberal politicians and judges to understand english. I did sentence diagramming in JR-High and was an english major in HS (but I can't spell). The Second A only causes issues if one looks at it politically, not grammatically. Diagrammed out it makes perfect sense. And you can clearly see the founders did not say anything about the militia having any rights. The 'well regulated militia' is only a product of the people having a right to bear arms.
That brought back memories of the mid '70s. :D
Wow, nice one, Tiki!!
Thanks. :)

What the hell? We never did that in school. I don't know how to make any sense out of that.

But the OAL will get a kick out of it.
Even though they read this (Hi Alison!), the OAL doesn't. They have a life :)
