I am looking into getting my first AK 47 and 74 soon. Should I be concerned about the riveted bullet buttons on some of the CA compliant models out there? Can you get AKs with aftermarket bullet buttons just in case the laws change in the future?

I think your talking about the Kali compliant Arsenal. You don't have to get it that way. You can also choose to get a regular AK and have a mag lock like the Solar Tactical put on it.

The AK's with the riveted bullets buttons are a no-go, they limit your options to only featured. You will have to drill out the rivet and re-install a standard mag release if you plan on going featureless. Some may say if you don't legally own any high cap mags then who cares but after a while I really hate not being able to reload relatively quick. For your first one I would suggest a 47 since it would be easier to find range friendly ammo for it i.e. non steel core or steel cased if you happen to live in one of those areas, if not then the 74 would also be a great recommendation.

but for the love of Kalashnikov and all that is holy don't get an I.O. Casar any foriegn made AK will run like a tank, that includes WASR's if they are imported from CIR and not made by century.

Thanks for the replies! Any suggestions for reputable Dealer/FFL in the LA area?

In my opinion, the best way to run a standard AK is "featureless."

Instead of having a magazine device, you get one of these Kydex thingies or a Monsterman Grip. This way, it lets you keep the normal use of the mag release. Personally, I think the AK mag locks suck, and there aren't much "features" on an AK to begin with ergo I think the kydex grip thingy is better.

This is what I'm talking about.

since we are talking about ak's here, i'm looking to buy an arsenal as well. When i did a google search there was an older post on calguns where i guess a year or couple of years ago arsenal was selling the aks' for like $599. Was that some sort of one time special deal that was going on during that time? Or do they have that similar deal on certain months of the year? I was pretty surprised how cheap it was compared to todays' prices $765 and up. Just curious if i should wait for a deal like that or buy now cause that was some rare deal that was going on. Thanks.

The $599 price is when Arsenal had them on sale.
Won't see that again for sometime. :(

Why not just build one? You'll get ten times the satisfaction, and you can build it how you want.
