I am very interested in picking up a Savage 93R17 FVSS and would like to know of a good scope to pair with it? Im new to the 17hmr round and not sure what a good scope match up would be. I would be using for range and varmit from 50yards out to 200 yards.

I use a 4-12X Burris Fullfield II on mine. You can use the higher magnification with the 17 HMR.

I have a 93R17GV topped with a Nikon Prostaff 4x (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=149715). I wanted a scope for varmint hunting out to 100 yards. The Nikon consistently got outstanding reviews. For the price it's simply amazing. I mounted it in some Millett rings with the stock Savage scope bases and it's rock solid. The glass is far superior to other scopes I've tried that cost just as much (or more than) the Nikon. I've used it out in the Mojave desert with success. It's a very clear, bright picture. I like its simplicity, too, because it's a fixed 4x. If I was getting another varmint rifle I'd buy a second Prostaff 4x for sure.

ETA: Well crap, I just noticed it says that scope is discontinued. Nevermind then... -_-

Out to 200 yds you might consider getting a 20 MOA base to add to the elevation adjustment of the scope or another option is Burris Signature Zee Rings (excellent rings) and get there +/- 20 MOA ring inserts. I would not get less than a 25x magnification for shooting at that range. Mueller makes a nice 8.5-25x44mm AO Tactical scope for around $160. Both the rings and the scope can be seen here: http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Mueller_Rifle_Scopes_s/30.htm

Its where I bought mine. Almost forgot. Mueller has a lifetime warranty and its transferable to another owner if you sell their scope. Excellent customer service at joebobs and Mueller. I own the Tactical and their APV. Both very good. Check out the reviews over on RimFireCentral. Big following over there on the APV.

I like the looks of the Barska .17 Hot Magnum 6-18X40. Especially because it was designed for the 17hmr, but would this be to powerfull for shots down to 50 yards? Maybe 4-12x40 is better for closer distance and still work out to 200yards? Im not very experienced with scopes so just tring to understand what my best option would be.

I have a Simmons Whitetail 6.5-20x x 50mm. It goes on sale at Midway about every other week for around $110. You will need to get a pair of high scope rings as well.

I'm also a fan of the Mueller scopes. I have an APV 4.5-15x on my CZ 452 and the 8.5x -25x Eraticator on my KID 10/22. Joeboboutfitters.com is great too and so are the Burris Signature rings...I wouldnt use anything else.

I have (3) Savages a 93R17 FV with a cheapo Center Point from Wally World, rifle is a tack driver with it, my 93R17 BTVLSS has a silver Mueller APV on it and my MK II FV has a BSA 6 x 24 40MM on it, all have Burris Signature rings on them although I really been eyeballing the Talley mounts/rings.
All the rifles are very accurate with the sights installed.
Don't know if Graf has any left but the Mueller was less than a $100 from them.
Take a look at the Center Point if money is an object, the rings that come with it are junk but the scope is just fine for a 17HMR.

I've got a Nitrex by Weaver TR-1 6x20 on a 93r17. Around 200$ @ Natchez. Nice clear scope.

Looks like alot of diffrent scopes I can go with on the Savage 93r. Just like ordering food at a restuarant, to many choices!

For the $$$ the Nitrex is hard to beat. The objective lens is big, 62mm OD. It's the clearest scope I own, and the reticle is quite nice. I don't walk with this rifle often, so size doesn't matter.

I have three 17s two HMRs and one M2. Mine is accurate enough at 200yds. but I need higher magnification to really see at that distance. The M2 has a BSA 6x18, and the on HMRs have one BSA sweet 17 6x24 and a Mueler 8X24. DR

I have a Bushnell Legend 4-12x40. My neck is short so I find that the extra body length of this scope allows me to mount the scope way back towards my eye.

I have a list of scopes to check out, hopefully I can find a few to compare at the gun show this weekend.

I am very pleased with the BSA Sweet 17 I put on my 93r17. Got it zeroed' with 3 shots and was able to print 1/2" groups (50yds) my first day of shooting it. Amazing accuracy out of the box I am very pleased with this rifel BTW Held zero no problem, plenty bright for what I do (It's not Swarofski or Leupold bright but it aint $1,500 either!) Make sure you get the new model 6-18 with the extra knob for paralax focus, this version is far superior to the earlier version (according to all the reviews I read before getting it.) The older 6X18 Sweet .17 is a bit cheaper, but according to guys that have had both the extra 40-50 bucks is worth it. The newer model also has a BDC turret, but I didnt get a chance to move to the longer range and see how well it worked yet. I think I paid about 145 for mine.

I have a cheap $40 scope on my .17 and it still performs well, but Walmart sells this 4-16x40 for $69 and I know guys that get out to 300 yards with that scope. Definitely my next buy.

Mueller Eraticator. I just spent two days in Cedarville on a squirrel eradication hunt, it's lights out past 200 yards. You can't beat the price for what you get. Buy one, you won't be sorry.

Well, I went with a sweet savage 93r from the classifieds and it already had a scope mounted. Nikon Buckmaster with bdc 4-18x40. Now I just have to wait 10 days to put some holes in paper.
