Went to Big5 at Crenshaw and Imperial in LA to buy some 00buckshot. Clerk got it for me and placed it on the counter. Says I couldnt take it and commences to call out the manager. (I'm thinking huh?). Manager pulls out a binder with pages full of info and thumbprints. I asked what he needed, and he said he had to get my info. I asked what info and he said my DL# and thumbprint. I pushed the ammo back towards him and said no thanks.

Big5 in Torrance (Hawthorne / 182nd St) and Turners (old location in Redondo Bch) and the one in Long Bch/Lakewood never gave me a hassle about the above.

Is this an LA city thing or did this Big5 not get the memo the ammo bill failed??

Total LA thing. In the rest of CA, you're exempt from the 30-day waiting period of buying handguns if they're PPT - Los Angeles doesn't believe in that exception, according to Turners Reseda.

Other dumb rules include that the gun store must hand you a piece of paper that says you shouldn't own a gun.

I don't buy ammo in California PERIOD! And won't until they straighten out their screwed up laws. I buy everything online now (even .22).

If you have a CCW, you are exempt from the thumbprint, and the copy of your CDL. :D

Pretty sure you don't need a commercial drivers license to purchase ammo. :D

This was not a joke. This has been the law within the City of Los Angeles for a long time (well over the 12 years I've been in Socal).

Anyone remember back in the old days when registration came around? All these guys had bumper stickers that read: "registration leads to confiscation."

Now most people expect to do paperwork when you buy guns. We are like frogs being boiled to death. Soon we will all accept giving DNA samples and 30 day waiting periods before we buy ammo! lol
