Thank you for cleaning up the word filters. Now I can say "Alison Merrilees" or "Ignatius Chinn" instead of having to do contortions like "Deputy A.G. A.M." and "Special Agent I.C.".

The bad part: From now on I'll have to make sure I spell their name correctly. I don't want to insult them by being sloppy. And to be perfectly honest, neither of their names are super-easy to spell: Is it Alison with one or two L's? How many R's and L's in Merrilees? Is it Chin or Chinn? Ignatios or Ignatius? So, if a spelling error slips in, I already apologize in advance.

Then there are abbreviations and nicknames. Is Iggy considered a polite abbreviation, or does he hate that nickname? I have some friends named "Richard" who hate being called "Dick", while others enjoy it and never want to hear "Richard". Even weirder: One of our neighbors has both father and son officially called "Richard", and they always go by "Dick" and "Ricky"; neither is ever called Richard. I was volunteer-teaching in 4th grade today, and one of the girls there is called "Ali". I wonder if Mrs. Merrilees would be pleased or upset to be adressed as "Ali Merrilees". I think out of courtesy I'll stick to Mrs. Merrilees and Mr. Chinn (or Deputy Merrilees and Agent Chinn).

I certainly hope that people will remain civil. We might stay away from silly nicknames (such as Ali, Iggy and the Iggster), to make sure we don't rub them wrong. And I hope that the moderators will be ruthless and quick if people fail to do so, while at the same time giving feedback - not only to the offender, but also to the community at large. And I implore the non-moderators to please report those posts that they find offensive, so the moderators don't have to read everything all the time.

I'm sure I butchered their names in my post in 2A Politics. ;)
Feedback is important, not only to the offender and the community but to the staff as well. I want to know if there is a problem. I can't gaurantee it will change anything but if I don't know I can gaurantee it won't.

Abbreviations, nicknames and silly names aren't that bad as long as it's not a rude or insulting varient. With all respect, if you're named Ignatius and have never been called Iggy, you probably lived in a cave. It just happens, people are lazy and shorten everything. :)

Maybe we should put a filter on the mis-spellings of Mrs. Alison Merrilees' and Mr. Ignatius Chin's names?

:D

Seriously - thanks for the sanity Kestryl.

You can denigrate without being crass too: sarcasm, facetiousness, and irony work quite well.

For example -

Dear DOJ,

Thank you for sending me a copy of the recently proposed fixed mag regulations; I'll waste no time reading it.

Comments? Does anyone agree with me?

NOPE... I dont agree with you. Its been argued many times in many Ivory towers that the "real reason" for the 1st amendment is NOT so you can go look at porn:p rather its sole & intended purpose is so that one may execise free speeech SPECIFICALLY on/about public officials and thier hierlings.

So while posting info on the peep's KIDS and what not is a tad....stupid in my opinion; its just my opinion....which thank God, I can still exercise in this state and to which Kest~ has allowed the platform/soap box:D

((metalhead climbs off Soap box......"NEXT!"))
