Howdy there, CG. Im curious about the two rifles in the thread title. is an XM177 The FA Version of a CAR-15? If so, Where can I get a CAR-15? or would It be easier/cheaper to build a CAR-15 Replica? I really like the look of the flash hider on the XM177/CAR-15.

Off the top of my head I cant think of anyone who makes a CAR 15 style Complete ARs that arnt on the Ban list. Oly Arms and MODEL 1 make complete uppers with permanently attached FH to comply with NFA.

Besides building is more fun:43:

Well the upper is easy enough:

http://www.galatiinternational.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GIO&Product_Code=MDB209&Category_Code=AutoIn-The-PantsWithThumbbreak for 413.

Bushmaster XM 177 - for 520
http://www.pkfirearms.com/content/1/0/0?page=2&products_by_vendor=7

http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=321 - $480 with upper and complete BCG

http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Barrel_Assembly_p/dt1031.htm - not xm177 style since it's a flat top for 415

I'd probably go with bushmaster upper.

When you find a source who carries a cut down lightweight bbl with replica moderator and grenade ring permanently attached, then let me know.

All those XM177 "style" uppers on the market just don't look right and if you do decide to buy one then in the long run as you get more involved into building your retro ar15, I bet you're going to wish that you did it right the first time.
