Has anyone ever heard of a .229 caliber? I heard this report and thought it sounded weird. Thought I would ask the experts here on calguns.

In response to the growing problem, Middletown officials have proposed changing an ordinance so they can hire a hunter to kill some of the coyotes with a rifle. Until now, only a shotgun could be used.

"So, we can go up to a .229 caliber, which is a little bigger than an M-16 round and give the hunter we're going to hire a better range to shoot them. They're clever, wily animals," Weber said.

That's just a random number they used that would include the .223/.224 caliber, but not the .30 caliber bullets. I guess they don't want people blasting off at coyotes with .308's, haha.

When I'm in an iffy neighborhood I carry my R25 in .308 and would not hesitate to blast a yote with it. Hey, I only want the tail anyway. If he splits in half, he splits in half. <g> If he's a two legged coyote carrying an AK47 I am equally matched.
