A friend of mines father just died in WA state, her mother wants to give her a pistol her father has had forever.
What does she need to do to bring it into CA if she wants to keep it?
BTW itís a compact 45 auto at least 40 years (maybe much older) like new condition, Sheís not sure of the model but itís says Browning on it? She says it has metal grips??
It looked old and plain, any idea what model it might be???

If the piece were explicitly left to your friend in his will, or her mother is distributing the estate according to WA probate law, it's simple: friend drives up, takes the gun and puts it in her locked container, says 'thanks, Mom' and comes back to CA. Once here, files the OPLAW form and $19.

If all the guns went to Mom, and she wants to give that one to your friend, her daughter, it's only a little more complicated. That's an interstate intrafamilial transfer, exempt from the Roster, but it has to go through a CA FFL, and she would need to make that arrangement.
