Anyone have any experience with this scope VIPER 6.5-20X50 PA RIFLESCOPE. I know it is not top of the line, but will it get the job done @ 500 yds.

aren't they about $500-600?
what about a nikon monarch?

The Viper is a great scope with much more adjustment then the Monarch. I'm considering one for my new 5R also after using my friends on his rifle. Great reviews on them too.

I have the viper you speak of on my 700 5R and freaking love it. Worth every penny!

I have the Viper 6.5-20 on one of my ARs. Two things I found that bothered me was it lost a bit of clarity on the highest powers(15+) and the knobs do not match the mildot reticle. Perhaps I am just spoiled by my Nightforce, but I would not hesitate to recommend the optic for beginners or those on a budget.

Vortex makes great scopes and many have predictd that they will soon own the sub $1000 market with their PST line.

I will agree with RugerNo1, mine seems to lose a little clarity after 16 power. Other than that I really like the scope.

I recently bought a Vortex Viper 4x12x40 from Sportsman's Warehouse for about $400. In my opinion the glass is better than Leupold, but let's be honest, there is nothing wrong with a Leupold or Nikon, as I have all three and they are quality scopes. All three also have lifetime warranties, with the Vortex not requiring any proof of purchase. I like Vortex a lot and the elk I shot in Colorado last fall dropped like a rock at 330 yards. Great scope!

The VV is one of the best scopes you can get sub $1000 IMHO. They are highly recommended by folks that know a lot more about rifles than me.

I bought mine because BigBamBoo recommended it to me, and he really knows his stuff with long range scopes. Mine sits in a 20MOA Badger mount on my Remington 700 5r. It's the best scope I've ever used, and I've bought scopes that cost twice as much.

Downside? It's not made in the USA. Then again, very few scopes are and the ones that are cost thousands...

I've enjoyed my Viper PST 4-16x50. It sits on top of my Ruger M77 Target and it has provided clear views at full power. Overall, I feel it's an excellent value.
