View Full Version : Wooden carrying cases?.....

I need to make 3 or 4 wooden travel cases for our two rifles and two handguns, and I need some design ideas. Things like exterior shapes, hinges, locking mechanisms, interior layouts and any other cool custom neccessities that could/should be incorporated in the final product. I've got some nice looking 4/4 Honduras mahogany and some oddball hardwoods to make the two pistol cases out of, but I still haven't decided on what type of plywood & trim to use for the long guns. Though I just found a line on some Tennessee incence cedar ply that would look pretty sweet sprayed in a satin Varathane. Anyways, any tips you Folks may have as far as 'must haves' would be much appreciated. Especially since I've never even owned a gun case before, nor really looked at one.....

Closest ive seen was to fashion a narrow steamer trunk sort of deal... Where it unlatches into compartments.
