Okay, I've been waiting anxiously since pickup up from Sacramento Black Rifle on Wednesday and was able to make it to the Gun Room. Most of my shooting was offhand and I was very pleased to be shooting 1.5" grouping @ 25 yards.

Before shooting, I did do a cleaning and lubrication. I also cycled the action about a hundred times before the range session (mostly because I wanted to play with it...anxious an all).

Like others have said, it has pretty much eaten up everything that I've fed it. I say pretty much because I has one issue with the Winchester group (but I think it was a dud. I shook the round and it rattled inside  ).

I shot...

300 rounds of Federal 550 round value pack.
200 rounds of Winchester 333 round (36 gr. 1280 FPS) - 1 dud. Rattling round?
100 rounds of CCI Stingers.
100 rounds of Remington Gold Bullet (that crap is messy on the hands).
200 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt.

I shot them in the order listed above. I saved the Thunderbolt for last because I saw someone post that YouTube of these rounds fouling up so bad it essentially smoothed out the bore. I shot 200 rounds without a single issue.

That was very fun to shoot (now my favorite gun). People at the range were asking about it and I even let a guy shoot it. I know others wanted to try...remember feel free to ask if at the range. I would have let more shoot it if they just asked. ;)

Nice range report and typical for the Sig522, you picked a nice tactical 22LR.. Congrats!

Cool, i just did my dros today. Gonna pick it up next wednesday. I know it eats everything up but what do you think it likes the most?

I think it liked the Stingers most. (or maybe I liked em the most). The stingers aren't worth it for just target shooting though. I think the Thunderbolts had a little more punch to them, but it might have been that it got slow right around lunch time and I was shooting without other larger calibers going off at the same time.

I hear CCI Blazers are the one to shoot....but...I haven't shot them yet. I guess I liked the Federal 550 value pack because it was the cleanest round and also got me pretty good grouping as well. All the others (except for the Stingers) had a lot of residue on them.

wow 900 rds in one outing. i can see why it would like stingers. 1 in 16 twist and stingers are one of the lightest 32 gr. try aguila hypermax, 30 gr. up to 1800 fps. it's effect on metal objects, from solid billet aluminum to layers of robust gauge (old computer case side panels) sheet steel are epic, so i've heard.

The receiver is indeed a forged quality aluminum alloy on par with mil-spec m16 uppers right? Thats what i've heard, haven't confirmed.

SWWEEEETTT... ;)

My rifle loved the Stingers too, by far though they are the most pricey...
I will stick with the new CCI AR Tactical 22lr ammo for now

Great report, thanks for sharing.

Nice report and welcome to the 522 family!

What grip do you have on that thing? Looks comfortable.

What scope rings are those? I just got a 522 myself and have a scope on it, but the quick-release mount that I got is too high. Looks like the height of your rings is about where I'd like to have the scope sit.

Thanks!

Thanks! They came with my Bushnell Trophy Red Dot. See the following link. http://www.opticsplanet.net/printable-bushnell-elite-4200-2-5-10x50-matte-riflescopes-422152m.html. That page has an image of the mounting rings off to the side of the scope.

Also, the Hogue Handall grip is very comfortable. I am used to it because it is on my USP. However, it isn't as snug as on my USP. It was easier to get on and therefore it slips around. I'm going to try the Hogue Handall Stick Kit later and report back on how solid that stays on. Removing the grip isn't an option. I like it a lot.

Cool thanks! I ordered a set of medium height rings, which I think will do what I need.

Add a cheek rest -

Someone on the forum bought this and it fits on the 552, even though the cheek rest is made for an airsoft clone.

How did you load 900 rounds in one range trip? Your poor thumbs!

Luckliy I had 5 mags so I could shoot for a bit till I had to reload. Wish we had standard cap mags. :(

If you are luck enough to have Pre-Ban Ciener mags they'll work in your 522. Ciener and Black Dog mags are the same internally with a different look/design of the exterior body..

One big reason I bought a SIG is because it shoots any 22LR with NO
problems. Pete:cool2:

how did the cleaning after go? 900 in one session I would imagine 6+ cotton patches before they come out modestly fouled.

A few passes of Hoppes #9, sit a bit while I cleaned other parts of the gun, a few more patches through, and some light gun oil to finish. Dirty yes...but most of the build up was around the area near the feed ramp and behind the extractor...lots of gun powder residue. LOTS.

hmmm i woulda thought the full length barrel burns out almost 100 percent of the propellant, oh right, 900 rds. hahha

Ok....

Just a quick product review. I got the thumb loader because after this many rounds, I do admit my thumb was hurting from pushing the rounds down. I know you can do other mods so that you can pull the spring downward from the bottom of the magazine, but I'd rather use something very similar to my Uplula for my full sized H&K USP 9mm.

The thumb loader did exactly this for me with the Sig 522 mags (factory and black dog).

Going to give it a real test by using it on the next range trip to dump all my Golden Bullet rounds ~700 (I don't like those).

I wanted to spend a couple more dollars (since it didn't affect shipping) and get the dummy rounds to try out the new loader. PLEASE DO NOT GET THESE. They aren't as durable as the ones I have for my H&K USP 9mm. They are much lighter than a .22lr round and have cut out centers.

Surprisingly the Sig 522 cycled most of the rounds. Because the rounds were light, the nose of a few of the dummy rounds jumped to the far left and missed the feed ramp. One dummy round actually snapped in half.

Anyhoo...thumb loader good. Dummy rounds...bad! ;)

My finger is so sore from loading mags today that it hurts to type with it. I needed to see that.

I've put about 2000 rounds through my 522 without a hitch. The rifle eats just about anything I feed it. I enjoy it a ton and +1 on the Black Dog Mags. They fit better in the mag well compared to the Sig mag that came with the rifle.

900 rounds in one go !
You must love the thing!

I almost bought one, picked up a M&P 15-22 instead (it was cheaper at the time).
Down the road my father picked up the SIG. I can say that I dont regret my purchase, but had I gone for the SIG Id be equally happy. Of the tacticool .22lrs, its def one of the best.

If nothing comes up, the plan is for Saturday 10 AM. Making a deal with the wife to not stay there as long as I did last time. My goal is only ~600 rounds this time. If only I could rapid fire, that would go by much faster since I have a reloading tool. ;)

We'll see......that's still up in the air.
