All,

This is very interesting. We are all members of the California Unorganized Militia. Read: California Military and Veterans Code Section 120-130 (http://www.aroundthecapitol.com/code/code.html?sec=mvc&codesection=120-130)

I had never known there was a parallel to the Federal Militia Act here in the California Code.

This is why after taking their weapons, Middle Age rulers didn't allow people to learn to read. Next thing you know, the commoners will insist on their lawful rights! :p

Interesting indeed. It means this opens up a variety of lawsuits for RKBA as a male citizen. I'm a vet, and would definitely serve in the militia should it need my services, and, I'm well armed according to the Milita Act of 1792 LOL.

Have a great Kenpo day

128. The unorganized militia may be called for active duty in case of war, rebellion, insurrection, invasion, tumult, riot, breach of the peace, public calamity or catastrophe, or other emergency, or imminent danger thereof, or may be called forth for service under the Constitution and laws of the United States.

Does this mean we're supposed to go out on the border and actively start to defend it from the illegals? :)

I've been unorganized my whole life. It's good that we finally have a support group for this. Now if I can only remember to make it to the meetings....

The educators of the great state of CA are already working on the younger generation not knowing how to read. Ask an 18 year old that graduated from high school to read a newspaper out loud.

Considering I graduated from high school a few months ago, I should probably be slightly offended ;)

It ain't bragging if you can do it. :D

I congratulate you for actually graduating, and not taking the GED or dropping out like so many kids are these days. Now I hope you're in college working on a degree of some kind.

Hey now I have a GED. I earned that when I was 16 and then graduated from high school the next year.

Boy, it sure seems like the government screwed any case they might have had that we're not a member of the unorganized militia when they had us register with the selective service at age 18.

As a member of the unorganized militia, I think your primary duty in a conflict would be as a human shield for the regular militia... :p

I don't know how the rest of you are reading this, but I'm reading this as the unorganized militia consisting of people who were in the National Guard, State Military Reserve and the Naval Militia, but aren't anylonger yet subject to recall.

The phrase "liable for service" seems like it makes that point.

Would "liable for service" be those who registered with selective service?

I don't think so. I think liable is exactly what I said. People subject to recall from National Guard, State Military Reserve and the Naval Militia.

Selective services is federal. This is state.

Ah, maybe it would be better to follow the example of Dolly Parton who, when asked if she was offended by dumb blonde jokes, replied, "No, because I'm not dumb and I'm not blonde."

You may be a well educated young man, but many of your fellows are not. If so, you are lucky... it will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life. For the rest, well, they're going to suffer in various and sundry ways for their lack of education.

Selective services is federal. This is state.

"Section 122. The militia of the State consists of all able-bodied male citizens and all other able-bodied males who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who are between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, and who are residents of the State, and of such other persons as may upon their own application be enlisted or commissioned therein pursuant to the provisions of this division, subject, however, to such exemptions as now exist or may be hereafter created by the laws of the United States or of this State."

That is who is liable, anyone who fits the above definition. Some are exempted in Section 124. If one is serving the the organized militia, one is not in the unorganized militia. Just about everyone else is, male citizens 18 to 45, and anybody else who wants to be. It has nothing whatsoever to do with prior service, selective service, or anything else.
