There is an interesting new scholarly article by Stephen Halbrook out rebutting Saul Cornell's "civic" interpretation of the 2A in his speaking and book A Well Regulated Militia: The Founding Fathers and the Origins of Gun Control in America

"St. George Tucker’s Second Amendment: Deconstructing 'The True Palladium of Liberty',"

I spotted it on the Volokh Conspiracy posted by Dave Koppel - http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2006_10_08-2006_10_14.shtml#1160770321

Excellent find, I enjoyed reading that. Saved, and soon to be distributed throughout my super liberal art college.

Looks as though another scholarly "revisionist" has met his demise with truth; somewhat akin to the shunned Michael Bellesiles (sp?) whose similar work on gun ownership in colonial/revolutionary America through gathering probate records, was found to be not only untruthful, but blatently biased, and based upon crummy interpretations of junk survey data. I believe it was John Lott that shot holes through his "work".

Sad that the peer review process isn't implemented later when these hacks decide to become best-selling authors, pandering to the soccer moms and dads, Oprah, The View, the mainstream media, etc.

Is that a liberal arts college or a art college that's liberal?:p
Heh heh, that would be an Arts College that is full of liberal people.;)

With the understanding that ol' Jens is an anti. The work and data gathering are generally reliable, it's the interpretations that leave one wondering.
