10/10/2006 - Reminiscent of our February victory against a similar Glendale ordinance (see this page (http://calnra.com/legs.shtml?year=2006&summary=glendale.1)), today the City of Santa Clara withdrew it's proposed Gun Show Ban. The City Council cited a "huge volume" of emails from NRA members all across the Golden State. Special thanks to the Silicon Valley NRA Members' Council (http://calnra.com/cgi-bin/haasmcshowwebpage.cgi?mc=siliconvalley) for their exceptional support in defeating this misguided idea.
Please send a ONE-CLICK email thanking the Santa Clara City Council for their common sense decision at...

Damn, that was fast!
I just got a reply today from Santa Clara staffer acknolwledging my message and giving time/date of meeting regarding this.
Is it well and truly dead and guaranteed off the agenda, or do we show up still just in case???

I think I'm going to have to renew this year. Looks like the NRA is finally paying attn to it's CA members.

It never stopped, it just didn't blow its horn to its own enough. And they need our help writing letters and calling and faxing and mailing to give backing to their threats...

The pressure from the amount of responses against this measure must have been over whelming. Way to go!

Speaking of grassroots, NRA, and pro-gun victories in California in general did you notice that in this month's issue of Guns & Ammo California ranks #2 in the Youth Shotgun sporting program :D?

We would be screwed in CA if it was not for the NRA. The NRA would be ineffective in CA if it was not for Calguns and other coordinated groups.
I think together we might have turned the tide in CA.

I want to echo that having all of us send our comments, call, and email really facilitates the NRA getting results and vice-versa.

Thanks to the NRA!
I actually watched the first meeting in which the council had this item hidden, and one good citizen rose up and spoke to have it separated from it being in the noise abatement issue, this person made the council not just rubber stamp the ordinance - which in turn gave us a chance to get this in the open ASAP.
At tonites meeting, the council voted in the beginning of the meeting to defer the matter indefinitely and the city attorney agreed, but he felt it could be defendable except for the Nordyke case. His "tone" indicated that after the resolution or the Nordyke case, he seemed to be inclined to perhaps to support the reintroduction of this. We must be vigilant. They also had voted to read over and research the matter which was presented to them with I believe was the NRA's challenge document. So I came away that this is not truly dead, but "deferred" and that the council will be looking into other ways to propose something similar in the future.
They stated that 39 parties had emailed them, and ZERO had commented in favor of this. The chief of police who submitted this was not present, nor was any representative of the department unlike the first meeting.
This just shows, we have won one time again, but must be vigilant and a great thanks to the NRA. That 5 year renewal I just did shows our membership can have impact. Even if you don't agree with everything they promote especially all the mailings, this is a classic example of where our
$ and their effort really does pay off.

I've been really impressed with the NRA this year....I do get a little annoyed by their mailings. They sent me a notice that it was time to renew only 3 months after I joined the NRA.....Lame. But they are doing a great job for us here in CA this year.....

Damn straight! I was going to renew at the gun show this past weekend but never went. I have a letter at home... if I can't find the place on their website, I'll snail-mail a check :)

Oh man that was quick! Good work guys. Remenber, NRA is only as strong as it's members (so it's a good thing we are very strong indeed!)
