Hello.

Do you think I can order this rifle: Rock River Arms NM M16A2 (http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR1285X&storeid=1&image=06nma24.gif&CFID=25831692&CFTOKEN=26792731) minus the pistol grip?

If not, is this doable? NM A2 Upper and Lower Receiver Set (http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0114A2SET&storeid=1&image=nmrcvset.gif&CFID=25831692&CFTOKEN=26792731)

I'm hoping to get something to compete with in DCM matches (Grand-safe ammo is hard to find, and more expensive than 5.56).

Thanks!

It'd also have to come into CA to an FFL without the flash hider (perhaps it could be replaced with a muzzle brake).

Make sure that the receiver says something like "LAR-15" on it or that isn't specifically listed by make & model in the Kasler list of banned guns (CCR 5495, 5499 - see http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/regs/chapter40.pdf

At that point you can add a 10rd fixed mag on the gun or run it in legal gripless configuration.

If it is marked LAR15 you can have it. Just find a FFL who will ship it to CA.

The flash hider would have to be removed along with the pistol grip, or the magazine pinned before it came into Cali. See Bill's post.

Would it be possible to have RRR remove the grip, flashhider, and not include the magazine? Would they do that kind of stuff?

Does anyone know of an FFL who woul willingly order it? My local FFL won't touch that stuff. Too much of a sticky situation for him.

I live near Berkeley (no, not IN it, but near it).

EDIT: Can I get a link to Bill's post? Thanks!

Ha ha ha. D'oh! :o

Out of curiosity, is it legal to have a permanently attached flashhider? I thought it was legal to have anything (short of SBR and full auto) with a fixed magazine.

Was I wrong?

If you have a fixed magazine it can have all the feature you want. Fixing the flash hider does not change its legal state. The only reason you would permanantly attach a muzzle device would be to meet the 16" barrel limit.

the flash hider, collapsable stock, and pistol grip must be removed if the magazine is detachable. if the mag is fixed you can have all those evil features :)

the flash hider can be permanent or detachable, doesnt matter. unless the barrel is less than 16" then the flash hider must be permanently attached to bring the barrel to 16" or above.

Don't forget that a forward pistol grip is also a feature, so is a grenade launcher but thats almost a moot point. That's why I just say evil features in general, so I don't forget something :p ;) .

Is it a California legal feature? Wouldn't surprise me a bit if it wasn't.

I think you meant..wouldn't surprise you a bit if it WAS ;) . And yes, a forward pistol grip is an evil feature.

You'll have quite a problem shooting the rapid fire stages in a DCM match. The DCM has been asked to modify the rules for Calif. OLL users but because these matches are for 'military' rifles I don't expect that will happen. Advise you to stay with the M-1 or and M1A with Calif legal flash hidder. Sorry!

An M-1 or M1A cannot have a flash hider. A centerfire, semiautomatic, centerfire rifle with a flash hider is an AW. Leave the threads bare or use a muzzle brake.

Unless it has a fixed mag. ;)

(though I don't know why anyone would choose a FH over a detachable mag)

An M1 can wear it all day long (as in M1 Garand, which uses clips, not mags).

However, M1A, correct, can't have it.

I was thinking the .30 carbine, not Garand. I should've clarified :o .

Sorry good people, I now sit corrected. It's supposed to be a muzzle break. The DCM is O.K. with either a Springfield or a Smith muzzle break. Both make a lot of disconcerting noise. But "Leave the threads bare" wouldn't be possible on an M1A as you would also have to leave the front sight off - the front sight is part of the muzzle break (or flash hider).

Oops, my spelling/grammar record has been tarnished  . I was hoping I could use the excuse it was late...just a mistake.

You talking about the RRR or a different brand? I'm interested in some more information.

Thanks!
