How can I save the entire website? I come here to search old threads!. It would be ashamed for all this knowledge to go to waste!

I'm not sure how much hard drive space you have available though. Mirroring calguns is gonna take a lot of juice.

I really doubt that Calguns is going to go down this easily, there are plenty of people willing to do what's necessary to keep it running.

Second, I hope that Bill Wiese is correct and this is not yet the end.

Ramon~

Thanks for the opportunity to be part of the OLL movement, Calguns is what made this all possible!

Good luck with your future, and God bless you and your family.

Thank you!

~Robert

This is a great site. Can you maybe find someone who might be interested in keeping it going?

Aren't your advertising dollars sufficient to pay for server costs? Hey, I have a couple servers and I would consider it.

i would really hate to this site go away after the victory we pulled off this year in sacramento it would be the end of a great network of news and information that is good to us all.

i wish ramon and his family the best regards as possible in this difficult time in their lives.

good luck ramon and i hope that this site stay alive and well. it is a great tool to help defeat the legislation we face daily in california.

.OK folks....

I am not trying to run Calguns myself (nor could I) or take it over, but I wanted to make sure key folks were on the right page and I've been on the phone the last couple of hours getting folks to talk to each other.

It appears a reasonable transition process is shaping up and that a ready possibility exists that such a transition can be transparent - i.e., lights don't go out, forum data nor PM database not lost, user data not lost, etc.

There is a chance a known long-term Calgunner mod (not myself) may ask for some reasonable funds donation, who knows.

Anyway, the right folks are talking with each other and things are proceeding.

Hell, the real issue may be dealing with the hosting provider & domain name provider and not have them lose the site when ownership is transferred. (I've lost email from an ISP when I changed credit cards on a renewal so i know this is possible.)

I'm sure Calguns will live in its approximate current form to get us thru the next several months and into the next year, and even continue the fight beyond that...

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I thank Ramon for his years of selfless service creating and running Calguns, and that we all offer our best wishes or prayers for him and his family...

Good luck! I hope it works.

BTW, you can take a poll but I personally wouldn't be averse if the site was commercialized a little more with the profits for the operation of the site. There's more advertising space that's possible besides the 6 current slots. That way, you wouldn't need to rely on donations.

Running a forum can get very expensive.

I have no problem with ads as long as they don't interfere with the information on here.

Kestryll FTW!

Best to ya, Ramon! You really did setup the best gunner resource/community for Californians, IMO.

Thanks Ramon for running things for this long.

I have no doubt that a reasonable handover can be done. Based on the skills and intelligence of our members, I'm sure forum members could keep things going, without any additional donations being necessary. I'm VERY sure of it...

Although I haven't been around here as long as most of you guys I did want to take the time to thank Ramon for bringing us all together here. Calguns is a tremendous grassroots victory for California gun owners everywhere. For the first time in almost 7 years legal AR-15 and AK-47 rifles are back in the state lawfully. Numerous anti-gun legislation was defeated largely in part by our diligent efforts.

Maybe I'm being overly-optimistic but I think this is just the beginning of something huge. The NRA has a rep now and we're coordinating joint NRA-Calguns efforts. We simply can't let the site die now that we've come so far, we've got to come up with a good solution to keep it rolling.

No worries, Calguns will continue. Ramon and I are working out the logistics of the transfer.
