Woke up this morning and thought, man I want to go to the range, but 00 buck is a little pricey right now. (I broke my toe, needed surgery, out of work for another month.) So I went down to Big 5 and bought a wood 10/22 on sale for $229. Ended up paying $277 OTD...

So I pick it up on the 14th, the day of my check up for the toe :D

Hey that doesn't sound to bad! My GF wants to shoot some time again soon, once I get the 10/22 I'm sure well go.

I'm going to try and convert my Dad also, 22lr should do the trick.

Dude, there's a 10% coupon on their latest paper ad on firearms! See if they would still honor it.

Wait you did not want to spend money on 00 buck because your broke but you bought a new 10/22 instead. How much 00 were you going to buy. LOL. I like your style. Everyone should own a 10/22.

Turners just had them on sale for $199 for blue steel with wood or synthetic stock. $209 for stainless.

I could only afford 3 of them ths time around. I did get consecutive serial numbers tho... :)

I'm going to put them away for my grandkids.

Pick mine up tomorrow from Turner's, $199 :D

Bought a Weaver Classic Rimfire 3-9 x 32 for it, which was just delivered by UPS. Looks like quality glass.

I also took advantage of the Turner's sale; I'm picking up two tomorrow. One is for the Archangel G 36 kit I've got on order and the other is for an ambitious project I've been working on, a Starship Troopers (the movie) Morita rifle.

Well, actually, it will sorta look like a Morita. It won't be a bullpup, it will just look like one. I figure with the flush rotary magazine I can put a cutout in the bottom of the rifle and a fake magazine and receiver toward the back of the gun and it will look sorta authentic. I can put a display cover over the charging handle and ejection port to hide the mechanism when I'm not shooting.

I used Microsoft (Resistance is Futile) Power Point to make some diagrams showing how the whole thing goes together. I have no idea how to extract the picture and turn it into a jpg or gif for posting.

Another difference is my rifle will have sights. The movie Moritas don't, if you google image "Morita Rifle" and check out the screencaps you'll note the actors kind of line up the targets using the top of the carrying handle!

The neat thing is you can do all sorts of things and not run afoul of assault weapon laws, just keep 16"+ barrel and 26" + length and you are good to go, at 18.5" and 34" respectively I'm OK. I estimate from the screencaps the movie Moritas are around 42" long and if you watch them in action they do look awkward and clumsy, maybe that's part of the satiric intent the producers had.

I pick it up yesterday (10-22). I am going to Sharp Shooters tomorrow in Torrance (LA), around 7 with my Dad and my friend(s). Hoping to put 500 rounds through it. Second time ever my Dad has gone to a range and shot a gun, first time ever with me.

A friend of mine may bring his 9mm Beretta. Any one with a M&P40 want to show up? It's next on my buy list.

I'll bring my 870 with 00 and we can shoot "round for round"??

let me know...

Los Angeles Gun Club in/near downtown (Alemeda & 6th/Factory) lets you shoot shotgun slugs, as well as rifles and handguns. the only place I can get my mosin nagant 91/30 INDOORS - they let you shoot 7.62x39 so all you SKS & AK fans come join the fun. I even shoot my 308 ammo too. For our new shooter peeps this means the smaller AR rounds are ok too 5.56/.223. No need for a rifle card either. Buy their ammo so you get a flat fee vs. hourly rate. Call them for more details. I know a few CalGuners usually go on Monday nights. Check the Range Meet threads. Some of their employees are on here too

I went on 3/14 and it was smooth as a silk - no FTF or FTE using the CCI ammo - very happy MOE 15-22 user
