Which gun (or guns) do you most regret selling...or never buying when you had a chance...?

What are the ones which got away?:(

Back in '02 a fun shop had a Bushmaster 22. I didn't know jack about AR's other than that I wanted one, but I didnt have the $750 the shop wanted for it. I remember telling the guy I wanted an AR and he said "I've got this, it'll take a standard upper but you're too young for a felony" something like that.

Colt or Bushmaster AR-15 Lower or complete rifle.

Browning Model 92 Lever action in 357 magnum (Only available used).

Any model AR-10 lower or complete rifle.

Any other rifle on the banned list that fired a military cartridge that was unique as a rifle in it's own right.. H&K, Steyr AUG or USR, Valmet, etc.

Two tone Desert Eagle in 41 magnum..(that other thread got me thinking) (edited to add this one) .

hmmm.... Almost all of the handguns I want are still legal so I really don't have one at the moment that I'm sorry I sold.. Same goes for shotguns since most of what I want are still available.

That's about it for me.

A couple weeks back the local Turner's had a FiveseveN in the display case. I immediately asked about it and they said they had a couple in and that there was no indication that more were coming back in. I asked to get it but their computers were down (this was during their inventory move to Chino Hills) and they couldn't do any transfers. I went back in the next day to find them all gone. I keep kicking myself for not grabbing the display model (they needed the computers for the serial, but the display had a serial so they could sell it). I also waited on a K98 with swastikas intact that went for $400. I really wished I had gotten it, but I didn't know it had the swasitkas until after it sold (the seller wouldn't return my emails and I was afraid it was another one of those "German markings intact!" just to find it pinged with the eagles there).

Hard to chose between those two.

In 1999, I got on the wait list for TWO SW5's. At the time, there was a lot of hype and rumor about the company (which of course subsequently went out of business). The time came and they asked me for $500 deposit each - $1000 total. That was a lot of money to me at the time, and I didn't want to risk it, so I backed out. Later, one came into the shop, looked pretty good, but it was too late - I had already backed out and they were only filling pre-orders at the time. 2000 came and bam, my chance went away. In hindsight, I should have fronted the dough and gotten them.

There used to be a local gunshop that always had lots of interesting stuff because they used to buy estate sales. Well just before the guy went out of business (due to the CA list of approved guns which cut into his business) he had a mint Broomandle Mauser with $600.00 on the tag. The owner told me he'd sell it to me for $500 (I was a god customer). I told him I'd think about it and the next day when I decided to buy it, it was gone.

That and the STI frame with the 6 hi-cap mags for $650 in 1999 that I also didn't buy. Basically I couldn't afford it back then.

can't really say I've passed anything up that I regret. Though I do have some purchases I regret. Remington 700 I'm building into a .338 Lapua shooter has been eating my wallet away to the price of almost $2000. I've gotta get a sako style extractor installed into the bolt and I can finally shoot the damn thing, and of course it still needs a finish and the stock needs a lot of work. Ang the way I'm hurting for money I'm probably gonna wind up having to sell it :(

When I turned 18 I bought a norinco Ak-47 a year later the Stocton school shooting happened. And the talk of a aw ban started. So, like a fool I went and traded it for 2 hunting rifles .243 and a 30-30. I still kick myself in the ***** for that.

You and me both man... many of us sold our "Assault Weapons" rather than register them. If registration comes along again I won't be selling this time. However, the DOJ seems bent on attempting to circumvent the registration requirements of the Roberti-Roos act and confiscating/forcing reconfiguration.

Israeli Defense Force M36... a bullpup M14 made by Armscorp nearly 20 years ago. The owner was going to sell one of only 3 that they were able to import into America, and I had a deposit on it... Ended up changing my mind and loosing the deposit. It was a sub MOA gun at 1000y, and came with Isreali documentation... It was $4600 at the time.

Hi all,
Long time lurker, recently registered, first post.
Back in '99, I had a chance to purchase an AUG with grey furniture for $2300, didn't have the cash, and decided not to charge it. I should've charged it because my chest hurts everytime I think about it.

I was 18 in 99 and I did not buy one single AR, AK or other fun gun when I could have. I was just not into guns at that time. I kick myself every day for that.

I also wish I did not sell my Kahr K40. Great little pistol. I tried to make up for it by buying a Glock 27 but I still miss the K40:(

Bought a Bushmaster AR-15 with 15 loaded mags (20s and 30s), cleaning kit, hard case, sling and a bunch of other misc for $600 in 1997. A friend of mine was in a financial jam and needed cash so I bought it from him. It had less then 100 rounds on it.

Same friend regretted selling it the whole time, asked me how "his baby" was just about every time I saw him. I decided to start my own business and was in serious need of cash so I finally broke down and sold it back to him in June of 99. I had no idea the AWB was coming....

D'OH..... at least when I sold it back I kept a few standard cap mags... Every time I look at anything gun related I quietly curse myself.

Way back when I needed the money I sold a smooth as silk Colt Trooper .357mag. Wish I had never done that. It wasnt so much that it was a "great shooter" or "huge collectable"...more that it fit good in my hand , and always performed well for me.

AWB stuff of course. I grew up shooting guns and always loved them, and planned on getting an AR when I graduated college. I was not watching the news at the time and not paying attention to anything gun related....SH$T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other than that...not much really.

My Dad sold a nice 4" .357 Mag S&W in the 80's (to get a 9mm, he said the .357 "scared" him) I'd like to have, but it was never mine.

Whoever that was looking for a FiveseveN, they're not that hard to find, just order one and DROS it through your favorite FFL.

HK SP89 at B&B in Westminster just before the SB23 ban in 1999. I held it in my hand and put it back in the case only to regret it later. The underlying theme here is buy it while you have the chance or you will regret it.

Shotgun news used to have some great deals -

Cobray M11 $199
MAK 90's $199
Hungarian SA85's $299
Norinco SKS $79
Makarov's $99
Steyr SPP $699
PSG1 $10,000
M60 semi-auto $7,000
SIG 220 refurbs $399
Steyr USR's for $2,300

Guess what? SGN still has great deals but most of the neat things are only available to others outside of CA. Dang!

Multitudes of AR accessories and models, including AR pistols
Plethora of AK clones, including AK pistols
Tons of hicap mags
New breed of HK94 / HK91 / HK93 clones
HK UMP conversion kits for HK USC
G36 conversion kits for SL8
Revamped models of the M10 / M11 / M12 series

There's still good stuff out there, unforunately not available to us. Weak sauce!

Sympathies for you younger fellows who never got a fair chance because you were all youngin's back in the olden days. I'm not TOO old, being in my (very) late 30s, and was practically the target market for military semi autos back before the various bans took place.

I didn't let many affordable ones get away, but some did:

About 200-300 or so Post-1989 Blue Sky SIG-550s with a thumbhole stock and a neutered barrel were offered in SGN around 1993, I think. Price was $2400. Sure wish I would have gotten one of those, but by the time I called they were all gone. Has anyone seen one of these at a range? They're out there.

I missed an SP89 and a canvas laundry bag with about 15 mags in it for $800. A few years later I got an SP89 for $2000 and sold it for $2900 in the mid-'90s after I realized it was a useless and gigantic 9mm semi-auto that was too clumsy to shoot in stockless civilian form. Since I sold it, the prices have remained close to the ceiling on that gun, but I would have made a great turnaround on an $800 SP89 and all those mags.

B&B Westminster had a FAMAS that sat around for about three months at $1300 plus a whole bunch of French Army doodads that came along with it. I think you got one magazine with it. One day I walked in there and it was gone. I wish I was clairvoyant. There used to be an older fellow at the Pomona gun show who would show up in costume like a French Foreign Legionnaire toting his FAMAS around drawing stares. He was the only other person I ever saw with one.

RogerButthead: AUGs were *never* that low in price 20 years ago, especially at either B&B Sales location. I paid a credit-crushing $1200 for mine and all my friends thought I was insane. Everyone admitted AUGs were supreme back then, but they didn't typically sell fast because everyone stumbled over hearing the price. People looked at them, grinned, and delicately handed them back across the counter. Back then, an Hk-91A3 would sell for $575 or so -- maybe a little less. No-one that actually held an AUG thought they were plastic pieces of crap.

I'd rather post in a thread about the guns that didn't get away, and I'd love to tell you all of the days of high adventure before anyone knew who the corrupt Mike Roos or that fat sack of crap Roberti was. POLYTECH AKS-762 red Bakelite sidefolder for $399! Your choice of Springfield Armory SAR-3 or SAR-4800 for $550! :D

If you never had a chance to attend the stupendously awesome Crossroads shows at the LA County Fairgrounds/Pomona Fairplex in the years 1985-1994, then the angels in heaven weep for you. I'm sure that there have to be others here who remember those days well. :o

Think of me what you will, but I held an AUG and thought it was a plastic piece of crap - probably because I prefer wood stocked weapons.

I remember walking past table after table of Uzi's and AK's at California gun shows back in the day. While I in no way support the ban, I didn't care for such guns then nor do I now.

I wonder if for some the desire to have a banned weapon is similar to wanting a Winchester lever gun? Not until Winchester announced that production would stop did people make a run on stores to purchase something that they may have never had an interest in.

When I travel out of state and see all of the firearms and high capacity magazines that are banned in California, I am not thinking of missed opportunities but of freedoms lost and rights infringed!

When guns are banned or discontinued, there is always a "run" on them. I actually was just thinking how dumb I was for not buying one of the last .22Mag lever Winchesters the other day.

Especially as Californians, we have learned it really might be the last chance we ever get to buy them. The OLL revolution is unique, and extremely important, as we've actually been able to get a small bit of our violated Constitutional rights back. Notice how many of us here mention AWs...some here were too young.

I'm not a hunter, so I prefer the AR/AK and other military style series weapons. The only longgun I own that is not a military type arm is an old 10/22.

AKs are just about the perfect camp gun IMO. They shoot cheap ammo, and the manual of arms is VERY simple. A great gun that can be passed around to shooting newbies and not worry about. Several of my buddies are military too...so of course they love playing with ARs.

Other than that, despite the recent article in G&A arguing in favor of a pump .308 as the ultimate SHTF gun, I happen to think an AR platform gun is pretty hard to beat, with an AK arguably as good. (both weapons have their pros and cons)

There is the historical factor. It's one thing to read about the noise a clip makes ejecting out of a Garand and how that was a problem. It's another to actually shoot one and hear that loud, horrifying to a soldier in a firefight, TWANG!

And then there is just the pure "fun" factor. I think for just plinking, it's hard to beat the fun of a .223. Anyone can shoot them, ammo is relatively cheap, and the gun is accurate and flat shooting enough to win the "Bet you can't hit that twig out there at 100 yards" that always seems to come up when out shooting with old friends.

I've sold a few but have two i really regretted letting get away. I bought an nib S&W 18 (K frame .22) in 1977. In 1982 i moved from the city back to the farm and needed a shotgun. My brother wanted my 18...i wanted his shotgun...He wrapped it up in a felt bag and stuck it in a dresser drawer. He never fired it. In December of '04 i bought it back from him. The first time it cost me $178 otb. This time it cost me $300. It's still in mint condition. I had forgotten what a sweet shooting gun it is.

The second was a 3" blued Charter Arms Bulldog. I know it's not an uncommon or particularly valuable gun. I bought it nib as a birthday present for myself in February of 1980. It cost me about $150 otd. A couple of years later i gave it to my dad as a retirement present. He loved that little brute and between the two of us, we put about a half zillion rounds, mostly light target loads, through that thing. It was one of our favorite plinking guns. A few years ago he gave it back to me after his arthritis became so bad he nolonger enjoyed shooting it. A year later i sold it, along with the dies, a ton of brass, loaded rounds, ammo boxes, a really nice pancake holster and a pair of Jay Scott combat grips. The blueing was worn, no rust anywhere, still as tight and accurate as the day i brought it home and it never shaved lead. My buddy offered me $150 for it. It went home with him.

After Dad passed away in January of '04, i started to regret selling it. Especially after Mom gave me his old well worn S&W M&P he bought used in 1941, and the Taurus 85 i had bought him as a Christmas present. I was out at Mom's a few months ago and came home with Dad's two Colts, a 4" blued .22 Diamondback and 4" blued .38 Viper. A couple of months ago I decided to call my buddy and see if he would sell the Bulldog back to me. All i wanted was the gun. Since he had another Bulldog he could keep the other stuff. He sold it back to me for $100.

I hope to pass all Dad's guns down to my grandson someday.
