Okay so I'm working on a few AR-15 builds right now but am kinda burned out on all the Magpul/Vltor/Tapco stuff. I want something a little different, stuff you don't really see on every other AR out there.

I know there's gotta be some different stuff on the market than what you see in your monthly CheaperThanDirt catalog but every time I do a search I only get your typical Tapco/CAA/Magpul blah blah blah.

SO....what other manufacturers are out there that make some cool-looking buttstocks, grips, rail covers, etc.?? Help a fellow Calgunner with some suggestions, thanks!

When I was looking for stocks before I built my AR, I considered these: Ace Socom M4 stock, Fab Defense (Sig 556 stock). As for rail covers, I like the Surefire Z70 M4 rail ladders and Troy Rail covers. I think these would be cool to put on an AR and get a somewhat different look than whats out there.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, keep 'em coming! I think I'm going to have to make the ACE Tactical Bottle Opener mandatory on every AR I own! http://riflestocks.com/store/media/TBO.pngLove this thing!!

I also just found this pistol grip/trigger guard from Starks which looks pretty interesting...

Now that you bring up Magpul, I was disappointed with the fit of my magpul pistol grip. It didn't fit as close as the stock pistol grip that came with my lower parts kit.

Wow wtf is up with that pistol grip? Is that all they allow in CA? I guess the sidefire solutions stock would be illegal in Cali?

Nice find! I like their stuff. Very unique! That bolt release is sweet.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be detrimental to my bank account...

That gun for the freaking win. 20" all the way. I'm almost liking the MonsterMan grip, even, normally I hate the look of those.

Troy has a few new things out that are different than a lot of the more common stuff. Their "Battle Ax" stock has some cool features and their pistol grip is about as minimal as you can go.

For rail covers, I just got the larue index clips and like them way better than the magpul XTM and DD ladder rail covers I had been using before.

Nope. New Mexico. We can own whatever we want. Only class 3 is kind of a pain in the ***. Funny thing is, there is much more gun crime in CA where this stuff is banned. I don't even own a 10 round ar mag.

I don't see how anyone can be burned out on VLTOR or MAgpul (Pmags, Grips, Rail covers). Combat proven and superbly designed!!! TROY, LaRue, Daniel Defense, Gear Sector, make some super high end components

I love my KAT rail covers :D Although the magpul ones don't like bad either

I agree. Especially pmags. I have 20 of them, 5 lancers and some gi's. I prefer the pmags over everything else. The ladder covers from magpul and DD are the same. They are made by falcon industries. They are also sold under the brand name ergo.

If you want a unique forend than look at the bar rail system by spikes tactical
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=461
it is free float forend, and very light while still having quad rail but with a different look.

That's how I felt.

I built my wife's carbine borderline mall ninja.

The 20 was going to be an A2 clone (but with the flat top and scope), but then with "Operation Gene's Package", I figured "WTF... let's go featureless"

I figured if I didn't like the MM grip, I could always sell it and get a Kydex wrap for one of the 6 A2 grips that I have, but honestly, I'm starting to really like the thing.... though it'll be nicer after I install the ambi selector lever.
Wow wtf is up with that pistol grip? Is that all they allow in CA? I guess the sidefire solutions stock would be illegal in Cali?
Nope... that's not all they allow, just one of the few options for a configuration with the standard magazine release (which is the only way we can run high-caps).

This one is my wife's 14.5"
Fully featured, but with a bullet button, and it is limited to 10rd magazines.

Thanks. I am not too aware of all the cali restrictions, because they don't apply to me. That is a wicked paint job on Your wife's 14.5. I am not sure if there are many people not in cali registered on this site, but I have got good info on here, and love the rimfire section, so I registered. This seems to be a pretty large cache of info because calguns comes up alot in google searches. We have a local forum here, but we only have a little over 100 members so far.

Edit: loving the old car stock and rmr too. very nice set up.

Rifle-length? Wood is different....

I wanted something different for my first AR build too so I went with wood furniture. It's a LR-308 pattern.

The upper and lower are being Cerakoted in the new light bronze color along with 4 mags and a few other parts by Todd at Phantom Finishing. I've heard nothing but good things about his work. I'm supposed to get the parts back next week. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it looks next to the walnut.

I wanted to keep the fore end free floated but still have the walnut so I'm going to machine a tube to match the DPMS free float tube and wrap it in walnut veneer, stain and finish to match the grip and stock.

I hope this project looks good but more importantly shoots good when finished as I'll have a bunch of work into it.

How are you legally going to have any of those guns in California?

Did you do that logo and selector markings yourself, or get someone else to do it?
