View Full Version : How To Pin AR Telestock?

The possibility that standard-capacity magazines may become available soon has aroused my interest in building a featureless AR so as to utilize this breakthrough. I have seen a number of references to builders who have pinned their M4 butt stocks so as to make them non-telescoping and compliant with CA AW laws, but I can't find any reference as to how to do this (and yes, I used the search function). I'd appreciate any tips on how to do this without buggering up the receiver extension. Also, recommendations as to Nor-Cal gunsmiths who can perform this task would be most welcome. Thanks.

Not the type of stock you have but it'll give you the general idea.

Usually the process does involve drilling and pinning into the extension. It's only cosmetic and would harm function when pins are removed.

If you have a CTR I was able to fix it without any real invasiveness (probably not a real word). I just popped out the little cross bar that the lever pushes down to adjust the stock. The I took a small screw to hold the lever in the open position to cover the hole left by the missing crossbar. There's no was to adjust it without a screwdriver and a few minutes of your time.

This is a very popular topic. It should be in the FAQ.
I did a google search for you and came up with a whole bunch of hits...

This is a popular method dating back from the 94 nationwide AWB. No gunsmithing, just drill it and rivet.

+1. I did the same thing with my Magpul stock. Removed the pin that allows it to collapse. Except instead of using a screw for the lever I epoxied it permanently into the up position. So the hole to re-insert the pin is permanently covered, and the lever is stuck in the up position. Permanently fixed stock, but no damage, drilling holes, or gunsmithing. Works for me.
