View Full Version : mini-14 ranch magazine problem

Got a fairly new(less than 300 rnds) Ruger Ranch Mini-14. Took it up to Yolo Range yesterday. No magazine insertion problems of any sort using 5 rnd Ruger mags, 10 rnd Ruger, and Pro Mag 10 rnder. Get home. Clean rifle. Try to insert 10rnder. No go. 5 rnder OK. Seems like the top rnd in the magazine has no give to it and kinda jams on the bottom of the bolt, Load the mag with 9 rnds and everything works fine. Kind strange. Anyone ever hear of a situation like this and know of a possible remedy?

Pro Mag is the issue.
Get the Ruger mags.
44mag.com usually has the rebuild kits.

10 rounders are generally made as 10 rounds max and are tight so only insert them with the bolt back or download

all the magazines but 1 are Ruger . the instruction manual says insert bolt with bolt open or closed. wouldn't the truth in advertising law force them to label these mags as "ca legal 9 rnd magazines"? ha. think I'll give em a call. see what they have to say.
