Hi every one, I have an question, I own an gun at says 223 on the barrel. But I have shot 5.56 out of it, is there going to be damage on the gun. I know 223 and 5.56 is not the same and I just learn that I can shoot 223 at 5.56 barrel, but should not shot 5.56 on 223 barrel? Thank you

5.56 is loaded to a higher pressure than .223, so if your gun is chambered for .223, you should not shoot 5.56 out of it.

correct

223 down 556 good to go
556 down 223 no good

Higher chamber pressures. Not good on the bolt and carrier.

when you shot 5.56, what type did you shoot? how many times have you done this? and did you even see primers popped out of the cases?

who made your barrel? who assembled it?

thanx.

Will I have not yet shot any round yet, I have the Benelli MR1. I get use to shooting the AR and this is my first Rifles that I see on the Barrel that says 223 one it. Now I will know what to use on my Benelli MR1

I'm confused. You have shot 5.56 out of a .223 AR and are now wondering if you can do the same on your Benelli?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.223 talks about the AR barrel markings possibly being off if that's the original question -- go to the manufacturer for the true specs. For your Benelli, just don't do it and you won't have to think about it.

read the manual that came with the gun

Basically dont do it and if you have shot 5.56 out of your .223 barrel and you havent noticed any damage, then you are fine. Just dont do it again.

Sorry English is not my first Language.
Ok let me clear it up. I just get a new gun last week the Benelli MR1, and I see on the barrel it says 223. Before I have own few ar and on the receiver is says 556. This is my first 223 and that is why I am not sure if I can use 556 on MR1 rifle. Know I get the answers. Thanks every one

Yes!

My 580 series Mini-14 says .223 on it. Ruger manual that came with it says I can run .223 or 5.56 x 45 in it.

Its ok, I understand now. Yeah I would avoid shooting 5.56 until you make sure that it won't damage your gun.

That's interesting, It really does pay to read the manual ;)
