Went to South Bay Rod & Gun Club today to zero my Remmy700 @ 100yds. Turns out the US Navy decided they wanted to bring out some toys to play with, too. The suppressed SCAR sounded like a .22 rifle.

You would think so, but I see Navy and Coast Guard there all the time. I've also seen Navy & Marines at American Shooting Center which is only a 25yd indoor range.

WOW! I'd go shooting just to see those weapons. That's an awesome sight to see, I've never seen a 50cal fire, and the range closest to me allows them.

Should have asked if you could shoot one

The Sheriff's range is open to the public here, are there many sheriff run shooting ranges?

I probably could have asked...they seemed like really cool guys, probably would have let me...but I was busy with my own rifle today. It was fun just hearing that suppressed SCAR going off and only hearing a slight pop-pop-pop.

Was it a .308? Heh I can't imagine seeing that rifle shoot, it already has low recoil just by watching videos you can see that, but coupled with a silencer?

5.56. The only .308/7.62 I saw was the M-14 in the 2nd pic.

Looks like there is a 7.62 Mk 17 SCAR in the 2nd pic you posted.

If the suppressed SCAR was 7.62 then I am even more impressed! It sounded so faint that I figured it had to be 5.56.

I should've took more time to check them out, but the cease fire was almost over and I wanted to get back to shooting. I was digging the semiauto .50 cal with USOptics scope, and all the Elcan SpectreDR optics.

That's def a mk17 scar (762x51) in your pic, look at the mags. Plus the elcan seems standard issue for them in the Navy.

Looks like you had an all arround awsome day!

Elcan is issued to all of SOCOM as part of the SOPMOD Block II kits. I found a guy on FNForum who sold me his SU230A (7.62 calibrated) Elcan Specter DR. Can't wait for it to get here!!

So what about the doughnuts? Those military guys get all the cool bakery stuff. I'll bet they had the latest in titanium sprinkles and laser guided bearclaws too huh?:hide:

But seriously, What are these two? and are those brakes on the muzzles or something else?

Well, Navy/Marine Corps ranges have tremendous amounts of regulations and a ton of politics to go through in order to use and reserve one. NSW (NavSpecWarfare) has the SOCOM dollars to spend on using public ranges and they do not have to conform to the regulations that are found on bases. It makes sense that they would be there.

So its just like at McDonald's then...

Give me 2 MK17's, one M82 and 2 Tac-50's to go please. Never hear of that before. I would think the military is really anal about where there hardware goes. And off base to a civilian range........
