I am kinda upset because I bought a 5 rounder magazine for hunting with my AR 7.62x39 because my local gun dealer told me its illegal to use a 10 rounder. Now some forums say 10 rounders are perfectly legal....whos right?

There are 5 round limits in some states, however to my knowledge there is no limit in California for rifles. The only limitation applies to shotguns which must be plugged to 3 shot capacity.

Actually the game warden just told me it was 5 right now.

That game warden was full of crap.
The only round limit that exists in CA for hunting is 3 rounds (2 in mag, 1 in chamber) for shotgun hunting.
Rifle hunting there is no limit, so it falls to the State's maximum allowed limit which is 10 rounds.
I was told this via email by the Dept. of Fish and Game official in charge of deer/big game hunting in CA.

ask the game warden (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/tracks/tracksbiggm2004_11.pdf)
But I think I'd look pretty silly out there with a twenty rounder sticking out of my M1A. If the rules had changed since that was posted in late 2004, there would've been some kinda ruckus about it.

Thanks FriedChicken. I'll take a 5 rounder just in case they give me crap. I'll also take the pdf printout with me too.
