I can't decide!

I like the walnut because it's classic and sturdy, but the black is a little sleeker and a touch more aggressive looking. Help!

I like the wood stock better than black but I'd probably get it in olive drab myself.

I like the OD, too--but I think these are my two favorites. I've heard various pros and cons to both stocks. I just can't make up my mind! It's a hefty investment, I want to get it right.

If you get the black you can feel guilt free when you decide to paint it.

Not into painting, not into any kind of camo. I'm gonna keep this baby pretty close to stock, maybe just add a sling.

Dont they make this in a OD green model?

While it's more comforting to be married to a weapon of iron and wood, I choose black since it takes abuse better.

(Wow that doesn't read quite right.)

For the classic feel I have the M1; it's okay for the M14 derivative to be modern.

That's actually a really good point. I almost feel obligated to get wood because of history, but like you said, it's a modern weapon.

You know what they say, once you go black, you can go camo-tan-od duracoat.

I think brown.

I find the patina brown takes after aging to be far more interesting than black which only tends to dull after time.

Its an M14, its a classic. Personally I would go with the scout version as they look better. If you want a black gun to hot rod, get a sr-25, lr308, lmt, type gun and enjoy the future, stop trying to fix the past. Keep that sweet baby wood.

PS the 308 ar is going to be more reliable in many situations as it has a dust cover, drag both guns through the mud, the m14 will need a quick cleaning to cycle, the ar will not. This is what makes me say the m14 is a classic and shouldn't be hot rodded/MALL NINJA'D, unless thats what your into, then have at it.

man, did you even read this thread?

A, it IS the Scout version in question. B, I already said the only thing I am
going to add is a sling, don't really understand your "mall ninja" tangent. C, i don't plan on dragging my rifle through the mud.

I like the look of the wood, and there is plenty of after-market plastic out there if you decide to go that way.

Having said that, if you are going to take it out into the field and shoot in the dirt, you won't feel nearly as bad if you scratch up some plastic ;)

If you want black buy a FAL or a PTR91, the M1A needs Walnut.

Black/Synthetic = tactical, hd, etc.

Wood = frame and hang on the wall.

Sorry, from memory I didn't remember the scout version havin gthe scout mount, which with hindsight makes me feel like a dummy. I knew I was on a tangent, and bringing up that mud thing was mall ninja of me, I just can't escape my nature.

But seriously, M1A's looks so good in wood. It just has no soul when its plastic, thats why my girl is au natural, and a good gun is the same way.

I think, if you want a black plastic stock get a Mini-14, if you want a M1a, get it in walnut!

My friend bought a new M1a and I can see the walnut just needs a little rubbing to bring out the beautiful wood grain.

Hey mang, why does black gotta be "more aggressive," huh?!?

:D

j/k.

I used to be strictly a blued-steel and walnut furniture man. Got my start in C&Rs and always liked the classic look and feel of firearms made in bygone eras. However, recently I've started appreciating the virtues of "high impact polymer" as I now own two Glocks, an AK with synthetic furniture, a blacked-out synthetic stock Savage heavy barrel "sniper" rig, and an AR to boot.

I'd say - get one of each, or get one or the other, and a replacement stock. That way, you can swap out the stock whenever you feel like it. Gun accessories are like Barbie for men - whatever strikes your fancy that day, you can do.

If I get it in Walnut from the factory, where can I get an additional black synth stock, and what would that set me back?
