Scout in Black Synthetic, Scout in Walnut, or Socom 16 in Black Bynthetic??

I plan on using just the iron sights, maybe adding a sling at the most. I'm not interested in a 22" standard length, and not interested in adding rails or changing stocks.

I was all set on getting a Scout, choosing between black or walnut was hard enough. Then I went to Retting's and held a Socom 16 today (not interested in rails on Socom II). Why did I do that to myself!? Now I REALLY can't decide!

Out of the box--which is the best gun? Not interested in other brand M14s, either. Springfield is it for me.

Scout in black synthetic or wood. That's how I wanted this one:

Switching out the stock as soon as I have the time.

And I removed the forward scout mount. Hate that thing.

when I was researching which M1A to buy, most people I talked to who owned each seem to overwhemingly prefer the scout version, the consensus was the longer barrel on the scout allowed a regular length gas system which increased the likelihood of it being more reliable and somewhat less of a muzzle blast.
I went with the scout with the black synthetic stock, in hindsight I think I would have preferred the more classic look of the walnut stock.

I would go the scout with synthetic stock. I have a full size version that I love but would also like to get a scout version.

Scout in USGI synthetic with Ultimak M8 and an Aimpoint Micro dot.

If you can put a flash hider on it I highly recommend the Vortex from SEI
... the one that uses a castle nut and a standard height NM front sight.

A little something like this one: http://i895.photobucket.com/albums/ac160/The_H2O_MAN/MK14EBR-RI/th_UniqueM8023-2.jpg (http://s895.photobucket.com/albums/ac160/The_H2O_MAN/MK14EBR-RI/UniqueM8023-2.jpg)
