I've read and read and read. I'm still not SURE of what to get. You guys are far more knowledgable and have been through this dance MANY times. HELP!

I've got 600 bucks for an AK. I don't mind assembling/ordering piece by piece if I have to. I also dont mind buying a pre-built one. In fact, if the quality is the same its preferred. But as said, I'll work a lil for a much higher quality.

Talk to me. Thanks!

So the Riflegear saiga for 400 is a decent start then? Not much better for the price?

Go to Turners!

Bought a WASR CAI 10 63 for $399 2 weeks ago. Refinished the wood in 2 days, took it to the range today for the first time and it fired like a champ. It takes all double stack mags, no canted sights, no mag wobble, it was great call turners see if they have some in stock still and you can get a great deal. This gun is super fun to shoot, bottom line though you cant go wrong with an AK. Just go get one, if you run into any issues CGN is a great resource to get your gun working perfectly.

Got it at Turner's for $399+DROS, and $10 at hardware store to refinish the furniture. Took it to the range and it ate up all my ammo with out any issues, takes all doubles stack mags. Great deal, lots of fun to shoot.

You know I called the turners in Orange yesterday and they said they had one AK for $399 and it was a single stack and another for $600 and it was the doublestack.. I'm assuming you bought the single stack but it can take double mags just fine?

or the guy on the phone was an idiot.. always an option.

Thanks.

I bought this in the Orange store. But No i saw the single stack there and this is not that AK, this is a GP 10 63 double stack it was advertised in the weekly special mid Jan. I went over there they had about 10 of these rifles. I went thru em and found the best one (no canted sights, Etc.) although they were all decent. This mag well was pre-done and other than some smoothing and removal of metal shavings it was made for double stack mags(which is what the rifle came with). I ordered some metal yugo surplus rebuilds and made some 10/30 mags.

I'm on their email list and I go there atleast once a week, but I guess I missed that sale :D. It's usually $399/single stack & $469/double stack when they are discounted. Wait...I put one on layaway in Jan. and picked it up at it's lowest price $469. I couldn't have missed it, i'll check my emails.

@ Op...converting the Saiga or building one will put you around your price range +\- $50. Or the Wasr from Henderson or Turners(when on sale) would be about $450 + dros. Good luck with you purchase.

Even at $399, it should have been more than $450 after dros and tax. More like $461 otd. Btw...nice looking rifle.

Winner. As long as you can handle the gun, check the action for smoothness, check for cants and no loose parts, you are golden with the WASR...I have had two and would buy one more if I found one with a 1970 date on it.

I would recommend one any day.

Thanks for the kind words, I am happy with the gun to say the least and yeah uncle same may have increased the cost but a few digits but bottom line $600 is more than enough to get a great WASR and what ever else you need to complete the cosmetic enhancements. Just make sure you research the gun, search on youtube watch the reviews, the tutorials on the different options what ever you choose you will be fine. The gun has a 1964 stamped on it. works great only problem is it has an endless appetite for 7.62 ;)

Canted sights are sight that dont line up correctly, there are other "common" issues with AK's Google how to pick a good AK and you can get a bunch of videos explaining this process. But even if you get a not so good AK everything is fixable.

Good luck!
