I didn't see this scope at SHOT but I have been seeing it on the forums and people are talking about it being Leupold's "Ultimate AR Scope" Anyone had any experience with it? Retail is over $4K and I found a new one on Gunbroker for what looks like a good price:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=216938972

The 1.1-8X power range seems like a good one, and I like the fact that the whole back of the scope is the adjustment knob -- no more fiddling around with the power ring.

Anyone?

Jeeeez....that's a pricey scope for an AR. Personally- if I was going to spend that kind of money on a rifle it would something high powered like a .338 LM

I'd rather go for a Schmidt & Bender Short Dot for a scope in that power range, it even costs a lot less (not something usually said about S&B).

Ultimate? I wouldn't call it that.

Desireable? Most definitely, except even at that price it's lofty.

90% of the time though, it's either going to be 1.1x or maxed out at 8x.

I like the mount. What makes the scope cost that much?

I like the mount. What makes the scope cost that much?

34mm tube, front focal plane optics, special squeeze and twists knobs, 1-8 range, new power adjustment rear objective. more rugged?

I know licensing the reticle form Horus costs them some.

The S&B Short dot is only a 1.1-4x and costs $2600 with a 30mm tube. The MSRP sounds high but not crazy high.

From the GB ad:
"THIS SCOPE IS BADASS AND VERY HARD TO GET. ONCE THIS SCOPE HITS THE MARKET THEY WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO GET"

I guess there'll be fewer available after they come to market..........whaaaaa?

P.T. Barnum was right.

This one is a bit cheaper and seems to be the same thing. Its by Premier, but not sure if its available.

That scope is silly. The S&B will be out soon and cost much less.
Leupold is price gouging for a military contract.
The new SFWA 1-4x is a better choice, for overall use at $800
Heck even my MRT 1.5-5 is a better value and it's a Leupold!!
did I say that scope is silly?
that scope is silly.
it's a silly scope.
Really silly.

It is a good scope. Tried one last May on a PWS Mk2.

Is it worth $4k? May be. Haven't used one enough to conclude.

Meh, I'd take the equivalent Nightforce.

the new S&B (supposed to be available this summer) short dot is a 1-8x (not 4x), and it's cost is about $2,600. i'd love to get it, but it's just too much $$$$$ for me :(

I just don't get how the 1-4x is a better choice -- when this is a 1.1-8x -- if you want more power than 4x, the S&B and SFWA are short by half.

I've had USO, NF and Trijicon 1-4xs -- all cool scopes, but 100+ yard shots became dicier and dicer -- I don't have the eyes I used to. I like having this zoom range without getting a big *** scope.

If I were gonna spend 3-4k on a scope it sure the heck wouldn't be for an AR15.

S&B, US Optics, Nightforce, Premier all have Shcott Glass, and that's the main thing. All the rest is appointments and advertising crapola.

We have Premier's and IOR Valdada's on our rifles. Side by side, on scene comparisons are the only way to tell the visual quality of these various scopes from the hype.
This guy is just down the road from us and gives us the best deals anywhere.
Scotty at Liberty Optics, and the V8 Tactical (also Schott Glass) is listed. You have to call him to get the real price.

It kills me that people will believe all of these stupid claims by some of these mfg's justifying pointless and undeserved prices. A good solid tap at the base of the skull with a porcelain darning egg would straighten them out. Just ask my Dad! :D Now he never argues wtih Mom.

If I had money to burn maybe. I can think of much better ways to spend 3k though.
