Hey Guys,

Well I started the journey to put camouflage on my gun. I know people think it may be tacticool, but I have always loved the look of Urban Digi Camouflage. So first stage has begun.

I cleaned every piece with gun scrubber, and also denatured alcohol. I prepped as much as could, taped up the ejection port, removed the bolt, taped up the magwell ect. I am leaving the bipod and scope on for now as I want the patterns and coloring to match the rest of the gun. I will pull them later and touch up the unpainted areas underneath with an airbrush gun.

So here is the before picture:

Here is one coat of light grey primer/basecoat:

Ill update with more pics as I have them. I am working on making and cutting out light adhesive stencils. Hopefully it turns out ok!

I'm with you on really liking that camo pattern! Good luck with it! Camoing a rifle seems like it would be very tedious work.

It took a second glance but I thought you had left your BCG in there and primed it

fantastic, can't wait to see how it turns out. looking at it in the light grey primer is pretty cool too, kinda like snow camo.

Well this is super tedious but I have the stencils for the first layer on, and I just got done spraying a darker grey onto the gun. here is the gun with layer one stencils:

gonna let it dry and put two more coats of grey on, then add the bulk of the stencils and add the dark grey (it seems almost black)

why only question is why leave the rifle together while panting it?

I want to make sure the pattern flows and diffuses properly when adding the bulk of the stencils in the next step. After it is done, It will be pulled apart and the detaills touched up with an airbrush and smaller stencils.

Is that the Ergo grip on there? My rifle is almost identical to yours and I have been wanting to get that style grip for a while, do you like it?

Interested in to check back on the progress here.
I just painted my AR and posted pics. If I had an airbrusher that would have been 100x better haha, I am stoked to see how yours comes out.

Everyone is painting their guns on calguns this week haha.

I just put the last coat on, and waiting for it to dry before peeling the stencils off.

I have a feeling I am going to need to strip it and re-do it. I do not think I used enough stencils, and i thought about that after applying the basecoat over the stencils.

Also the dark grey I have is basically black when applied over grey, so It might be too dark. Oh well learning experience.

Ill post pics of it before clearcoating in about 20-30 minutes.

Well time to strip. For some reason the paint seeped through the painters tape, maybe its cause of the weather, with so much moisture in the air. Also as I suspected I need more stencils. Live and learn. I am not posting up close pics as like I said the paint seeped through. Also I dont know if the can was wrong or what, but the "dark grey" that I bought looks friggin black.

This is way harder then I thought :( Oh well time to re do. This was a tough 10 hour lesson

I gotta run to the car store to get some bra-kleen to get the paint off....but i guess for progress' sake Ill post one pic. You can see the color almost looks black against the other two color and more stencils/smaller squares are needed.

Im gonna order some colors again and hopefully they get a bit closer in contrast, ill post pics up next weekend after I get the new cans in and I strip it

Let this be a lesson, this task is NOT easy:

There's a website that sells a huge roll of digi camo stencils or other stick on camo stencils for about $15. I forgot the website but it was cheap and the stencils were really good. Also, I don't know what paint you are using but the krylon camouflage goes on really well and has no shine at all. It is the best camo paint I've been able to find. Amazon.com has it for sale also with tons of colors or stop by a local kragen, etc.

what paint are you using? where did you get your airbrush? and I would suggest using 3M green masking tape and going lighter on your coats. Or have someone cut you some vinyl mask and sill go light on coats.

Sweet! I like the Urban-flage so much I did one myself on my LR-308 clone.

A few "oopsies", but for my first attempt it turned out better than I had hoped.

I went snow-digi on my FAL on a whim. I got annoyed with people asking why would I paint it snow colored so I went back to black.
