I think it all depends on how you are going to use it. Range, CCW, duty?

Retention straps are great for duty carry or if you a very ruff and tumble. For CCW I don't use them unless working undercover.

Duty wise I mean. I plan on getting my first handgun in August. I have heard some good reviews on Blackhawk Serpa holsters due to the retention and that lock so no one can take your gun. But I like the retention straps holsters. The styles are nice.

On duty I use a Safariland 070 and have for years. It is much more than a holster with a retention strap. I had a friend years ago who was in a fight with a monster of a parolee who managed to rip the holster off his belt, but could not get the weapon out of the holster.

Don't forget, safariland also has their own quick access retention system like the 6365 and others they have modeled after. I see a lot of comparisons around that system vs blackhawk serpa.

That Safariland 070 holster looks good. I think with practice I can get the hang of unsnapping the top strap and that back strap.

Snap, snap, and rock. It does take practice, but is a lot faster than one might think.
