I was talking with the other guys in my BNCOC class today and we were disagree over the legalities of mailing firearms. Is it true that an individual can mail a firearm that they own to them self? Like if one was to go on a hunting trip in another state and didn't want to check the gun in their luggage, could they mail it to where they will be staying and do the same going home?

Also, with military, I was told that here in Utah if a soldier is on orders here, they can purchase a firearm and not have to deal with any of the out of state issues as they are considered being a resident at least on a temporary basis, if that is the case, would an individual be able to purchase a firearm here, then mail it to their home state to their own residence as they had it already in their possession, or would they have to go through an FFL anyways?

Full disclosure, I have no intention in doing this, legal or not, as I'm broke and can't be buying any more guns lol.

See here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=4094492&postcount=2) and here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=3456390&postcount=2). I don't know how or if that would change if you were in the military.
