Well there's going to be a bill sometime in March I believe to keep the government funded, as well as the debt ceiling shortly thereafter. That would be the time for the Thune bill to be re-introduced and attached to the legislation. A good thing is that this bill wouldn't cost anything unlike the usual pet projects.

The Thune Amendment (or a like amendment) will come in the form of an amendment to a "must sign bill", but it will likely have to be approved by the Senate and House before approving the amendment. There is no "line item veto".

Last time the "Thune amendment" got 58 votes in the Senate.
While 60 may be the magic number in the Senate, we now not only have a "Pro Gun" majority in the house, but a "Pro Gun" leadership that will allow a vote.
This may be the year we get the "Thune bill" through. Who knows, maybe we could even get a repeal of the "Hughes amendment" while we are at it.
