Hey guys. New guy here from Detroit, Michigan. Received orders for Camp Pendleton in June. Recently purchased SA XD9 service with hi-cap mags. Plan on sending those to my Dad in Idaho and picking up the required 10rd mags before we move. As I stare out my window at 10 inches of snow, June could not come fast enough.

hahaha. Nope. It's more akin to 'built like a brick sh*t-house'.

Welcome to Calguns. 70's & sunshine here today, we are just a bit S/E of Camp Pendleton.

welcome Brick. Today here in SoCal, it was a chilly 62 degrees outside and I was unable to wear my shorts! Had to don the jeans and a heavyweight T-shirt. :P

Welcome! Moving to a new place is always tough. The weather being much nicer does ease the pain a bit!

Sorry about the mags. We're working on it.

Thanks everybody! Haven't had too much chance to search around the site but is there any great resources for finding ranges in the area? I know Pendleton has one I can get onto but I think it's only open weekends and being in the medical field, my one day a week off is often not on a weekend.

Welcome TheBrick to SoCal. The Weather in June here should be similar to now so don't worry that you wold miss anything. Assume that you'd have a firing range somewhere inside Camp Pendleton, else there're a few few good ones in OC and SD.

Welcome, the nearest range will be iron sights in Oceanside.

If your Corp and its sounds like it, Pendleton has a nice handgun range and the ammo is very reasonable. Their rifle range is sadly much harder to get onto and its Marines only unless there's a special event. You need to call the Base and verify that its alright for you to have your XD9 on base in your housing. Last time I talked Buddy down there you couldn't have any personal firearms in your on-base housing.

Second on Iron Sights, its pretty common to see Marines shooting there.

Actually a Navy Medical Officer at NHCP. Will probably live off base in Oceanside/Carlsbad. Will Iron Sights let you bring your own ammo? How about any outdoor ranges?

I believe you can use your own ammo but you have to rent the lane and you pay by time. Last time I was on base they let anyone with a CAC use the base handgun range. Even us Contractors that like to buy gasoline while on base. I'm still shocked that they let me buy stuff at the PX. :D

Iron sights will let you bring your own ammo, you pay for the lane and I think Military get a discount. For outdoor ranges in North County you might look into the Rainbow Range, it is just off of I-15 North of Escondido and South of the Riverside County line.

I've heard that the pistol Range at Camp Pendleton was damaged by the recent rains and is closed until they decide if its better to repair it or move it.
