I am needing to find out if the Smith and Wesson 1911 #108303 is legal in California or not. I have seen that some of you on here have this gun but I am not finding it on the DOJ list. It is the Stainless 1911 with the rail. All help would be appreciated thanks.

There is a difference between "legal" and "on the list"

Yes, it is legal. If you can find someone who already owns one, you can buy it from him, provided that you are both present at the gun shop for the transfer.

The roster simply indicates what can be sold from dealer stock, or transferred in from another dealer/person.

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but the basic design of the 1911 does not meet the current DOJ standards. If this is a new design, first produced after 2007, it will certainly not qualify for the roster.

To nitpick even more, if a gun is on the DOJ "list" it's illegal. The handguns that can be transferred by CA dealers are on the "roster."
