Buck Mossie is a former United States Marine Corps Infantryman who deployed to both Southeast and Southwest Asia with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable. He currently is a member of a large Metropolitan Law Enforcement Agency in Southern California, where in addition to having worked a variety of field assignments, he has also served as a California Peace Officers Standards and Training (CA P.O.S.T.) Certified Master Firearms Instructor for over a decade.

Mossie Tactics LLC 2-Day Basic Rifle / Carbine Class ~ So CAL‎ ~ April 9th & 10th, 2011

This class is an entry level two day course for AR Rifle / Carbine shooters and is designed specifically for those who have not had any formal instruction or those who wish a refresher class. Topics that may be covered include: AR Rifle / Carbine safety, stance, zeroing sights, sight alignment, snapping in, and trigger control. Familiarization with AR Rifle / Carbine topics include field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that may be covered includes: reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and an introduction to different skill drills including dry fire, bullseye shooting, and malfunction drills. Ammo requirement is 500 rounds Rifle / Carbine.

Primary Instructor: Buck Mossie

- Class dates: April 9th & 10th, 2011

- Cost: $375

- Location: Oak Tree Gun Club Newhall, CA

- Class size: Maximum ten students

Weapon & Gear Class Requirements:

Rifle / Carbine:
- Serviceable duty grade rifle or carbine
- Serviceable sling (tactical 2 point type preferred.)
- Minimum of 5 serviceable rifle / carbine magazines
- Optics – (Optional, red dot sights suggested with back-up irons)
- Minimum 1 carbine magazine pouch - or method to carry at least two spares magazine(s)

MISC:
- Eye and ear protection (electronic hearing protection is preferred)
- Suitable range wear depending on the season
- Weapon cleaning & lubrication supplies
- Good attitude

Zeroed Weapons: 100-yard carbine preferred, but others are acceptable if you have a good reason why and understand it.

Ammo Requirements:
- 500 rounds of rifle / carbine ammunition

There are still a few spots available for this class... This is a great skill builder class if you would like to raise the level of your abilities with an AR carbine or rifle...

I have recieved several emails asking the question "Can I bring my Assault Weapon into California to attend a Mossie Tactics Class?"

Since Mossie Tactics LLC meets all of the requirements set forth in 12280 (m) of the CA Penal Code, The Answer is Yes.

12280. (a) (1) Any person who, within this state, manufactures orcauses to be manufactured, distributes, transports, or imports intothe state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or whogives or lends any assault weapon or any .50 BMG rifle, except asprovided by this chapter, is guilty of a felony, and upon convictionshall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for four, six,or eight years.(b) Any person who, within this state, possesses any assaultweapon, except as provided in this chapter, shall be punished byimprisonment in a county jail for a period not exceeding one year, orby imprisonment in the state prison. (c) Any person who, within this state, possesses any .50 BMGrifle, except as provided in this chapter, shall be punished by afine of one thousand dollars ($1,000), imprisonment in a county jailfor a period not to exceed one year, or by both that fine andimprisonment.

(m) Subdivisions (a), (b), and (c) shall not apply to the possession and importation of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle into this state by a nonresident if all of the following conditions are met:

(1) The person is attending or going directly to or comingdirectly from an organized competitive match or league competition that involves the use of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle.

(2) The competition or match is conducted on the premises of one of the following:

(A) A target range that holds a regulatory or business license for the purpose of practicing shooting at that target range.

(B) A target range of a public or private club or organizationthat is organized for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets.

(3) The match or competition is sponsored by, conducted under the auspices of, or approved by, a law enforcement agency or a nationally or state recognized entity that fosters proficiency in, or promotes education about, firearms.

(4) The assault weapon or .50 BMG rifle is transported inaccordance with Section 12026.1 or 12026.2.

(5) The person is 18 years of age or over and is not in a class of persons prohibited from possessing firearms by virtue of Section 12021 or 12021.1 of this code or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.

Yes there is room for you (+1) in the class, It will be great to see you again... The class we had with Ken Hackathorn was a great class, and this promises to be a great class as well... I'm glad that you are going to be on board... I will send you an email with the class details and payment info...

Are transitions from carbine to handgun going to be covered? In other words, should we bring pistols and associated gear?

We will do some work on transitions, so you will need your handgun and approximately 50(+) rounds of ammo. This is going to be a great class.
