it's a beauty!

how much was it and did you need a c&r for them to drop off at your door?

No need C&R from CMP, as long as if you are qualified, they'll ship it to your door. Nice rifle by the way!

Once you wade through CMP's silly paperwork-setup requirements, they are a Big Fat EASY button. ;-)

Being 2011, I had to make my first gun of the year a 1911. But if/when CMP get's some more 1903's in stock, I'm probably going to go broke (and tick off the wife). If not, I'll console myself with another Garand.

This C&R is an addiction indeed.
Since I got my C&R & COE in Oct. 2010, it got me:
3 Garands (2SA & 1PB)
1 Luger P-08
1 K98

THIS IS THE O.P.

yeah, i can't believe how easy it was to get this rifle. i sent in my order 12/18/2010 and then it arrived in the mail 2/1/2011. faster than i thought.

well, as you can see it's a Springfield Armory M1 Garand Special. Basically it's a new rifle. It has a new stock (with the CMP cartouche) and new barrel and re-parkarized steel parts. The rifle came in a plastic case, one en bloc clip, and a certifcate from the CMP. it did NOT come with a sling (that's Brownell's competition sling).

there is NO collector's value at all to this rifle because of all the new parts, but i don't care, it's a beauty! the woodstock is beautiful, however, i already dinged and scratched it a few times learning how field strip it and mounting a 1903 sling...heh heh.

i have yet to shoot it due to work and other obligations, but it will be great to test it out at the range this weekend!

i can't wait to scratch it up and use and abuse this rifle...it was a great birthday present to myself!

more pics and a range report in the future!!!

There is too a collectors value in it. Its an M1 Garand! lol. Unless you got a Fulton Armory M1 Garand, I don't think those are very collectible.

a Fulton

Fulton rebuilds both M1 Carbine and M1 Garands using USGI receivers. The commercial cast receivers are problematic at best. The CMP also sells/has sold bare receivers, barreled receivers, and woodless M1 rifles. Additionally, discounted new manufacture barrels are available, made by Krieger in their Criterion (button rifled) plant. Those are for all the folks that like to roll their own.

From my perspective, the USGI receiver is the historical part. The cast receiver 1903A3's, M1 Carbines and M1 Garands are great a great source of spare parts.

Great looking rifle, GO SHOOT IT!!!

THIS IS THE O.P.

well, here is a quick little range report after work on saturday with my CMP Springfield Armory M1 Garand Special

here is an 8 shot group at 100 yards with 150 grain American Eagle .30-06 ammo "for M1 Garand"

i'm very impressed with this rifle, this thing still kicks butt. this was my first time shooting a Garand! happy to shoot my grandpa's old rifle from the war.

That is better grouping than some AR15 with scopes. Good shooting.

Are you using the American Eagle M1 Garand specific ammo?

yes, i am using American Eagle M1 Garand specific ammo.

i'm planning to handload my own Garand ammo, so i also chronographed American Ealge m1 garand specific ammo on my garand. the American Eagle Garand ammo clocked in at about 2700 FPS.

hopefully i could get a tighter group with handloads.

Your grouping is about what can be expected from the Garand. Afterall its not a target rifle
