Hello everyone, the names Anthony. I heard about this site because of xdtalk.com and I am new to the world of guns. So I barely found out today that XD's cant be sold here in California. Shame because it looks like a great gun. If anyone can please clarify this for me that would be much appreciated. I am looking to join the police academy in the next few years after I work on getting the money for it. I work as a security guard from time to time. Sadly not getting much offers to do security as of late. So now searching for a regular job to save up for the police academy. So why is an XD not allowed to be sold here in California? If a Law Enforcement Officer were to purchase a gun that is not supposed to be sold here in California will that officer get in trouble? I thought Law Enforcement Officers wouldn't get in trouble due to the fact their Law Enforcement. I apologize if the question seems stupid. I am new to the world of guns.

The best thing if wanting to buy a handgun is to look at the list , Check for model , finish , calibre, and expiration date on the DOJ list. Before going on-line or in a dealers store. Knowledge is power. The list can be vague and also very specific. Depending on where you are and the folks online through various forums there is a lot of misinformation re: guns in Cali.

Many XDs are on the approved roster and are sold in CA. If you're looking for one of the models that are not on the approved list, like the XD(M) models, PRK Arms there in Fresno can make one exempt from the roster requirements for you.

I have been looking into certain handguns that could be a my first handgun. I am trying to save up so I can get my firearm permit to carry a gun while on duty as a security guard. Have until August to save, turn 21 in August. I read you need to be 21 to own a handgun in California. So I anxiously await that day when I turn 21. So far the top 5 handguns that I like are the ruger SR9, Glock 19 and a M&P9 and XD.

August is getting closer, probably at a painstakingly slow rate for you...then a 10-day wait once you make it to 21 :chris: Have you checked PRK out yet for all the handguns and roster-exempt handguns they have available as roster-exempt-conversions? Any questions we can help you with?

You can own a handgun before the age of 21. You MUST have a Handgun Safety Certificate and your Father/Mother or Grandfather/Grandmother must gift you the pistol and you will send a intrafamilial transfer form with $19 to the (I think) DOJ.
