I am looking to buy a .308, i want to equip a silencer/supressor, but i don't know if it is legal, or just frowned upon. I would not use the rifle for hunting, just target shooting. If anyone has any information regarding this, please post below.
Thanks...

(P.S.) I am also looking into purchasing land for a rifle range.... anyone in the Big Springs, CA. area who has at least a two mile square of land for sale, please post below.

No suppressing or silencing in CA without being an FFL 2 or 3.
Lots of money and paperwork with no guarantee you'll even get it.

You can't own one.... but if you have a buddy who owns a firearm manufacturing company/store, they can own one and you can test it at the range under their direct supervision ;)

Why does anyone need a suppressor? Because they want one. Because they want to shoot without ear protection? On precision/long range rifles suppressors can also be useful for reducing recoil, and I hear they make it easier to see the bullet's trace.

In a "free state", you just need the $200 federal NFA tax stamp (one per device) and you're good to go.

California requires, in addition to the NFA stamp, a "Dangerous Weapons Permit" which is pretty much impossible for "Joe Average" to obtain.

California isn't the only state either.
Washington allows possession, but not use.
