View Full Version : Best All Around Hunting Jacket

Thought I would ask the group for advise on hunting jackets. I have a complete outer set up (over pants and jacket) from rivers west which is wind and rain proof but this year while elk hunting doing a lot of walking I would return to camp soaked in sweat and cold from being wet. The stuff is not breathable so I think that is the problem. I was hoping this group has used some stuff that is convertible or all purpose they could recommend.

It sounds like you were in a cotton based material. Polyester or wool would be much better and they should be worn in layers. The nice thing about them is that they wick the sweat and water away from your skin which helps to heat or cool you depending on the need. Also, with layers of the same material it will keep moving the water toward the outside of your layers. Helping to keep the our body temp in and the water out. If you start to get hot, wear fewer layers.
