The suit claims that he filed Nov. 1, 2010 for a city firearm permit but was denied by the city’s Department of Administrative Hearings because he had a 1995 misdemeanor conviction for possessing a firearm on a public street. Gowder has never been convicted of a felony, according to the suit.

This suit is being supported by the NRA and looks to challenge the denial of a CFP due to a previous misdemeanor conviction.

Only a misdemeanor for illegally carrying? What was he carrying(rifle/shotgun or handgun)? I guess that's why the gangbangers aren't so worried about carrying in Chicago.

Carrying shouldn't be a crime at all.

It's not just the right the keep arms.

Yeah the original charge made me laugh too.
Possessing a firearm on a public street...and we thought CA was bad.

At least we can UOC (technically).

Story says it was filed Thursday.

The Clerk does have a bunch of cases that were filed yesterday, so I don't know why Shawn Gowder doesn't show up in that list of plaintiffs. http://198.173.15.34/?section=CASEINFOPage&CASEINFOPage=2400 should have it eventually, I guess.
