Can an individual hunt with a 10 round magazine lock AK or an original factory SKS?

You could even go featureless and use a 75 round drum. Of course, I prefer using a muzzleloader and being a little more sporting but, there are no mag capacity restrictions. If hunting with a RAW, one must make sure that RAWs are allowed in that area though.

You can hunt Coyote with a Saiga-12 and a pre-ban 50 round drum mag. ;)

But yes, you can. I've used my SKS since 1995..no issues so far from LEO's.

What have you managed to take down with the SKS? Deer, coyote, pig, etc.?

Legally, yes. The question is, what do you plan to hunt? The cartridge is similar ballistically to the .30-30. Good enough for anything in California except the larger bears.

Coyote, being the operative word in that statement. don't take that setup on your next dove hunt. :)

Thank you. Do you make your kills with iron sights or a scope? If a scope, do you have it mounted to the top cover (such as on a raised rail) or screwed into the side of the receiver?

3 of the deer were with iron, the rest is scope which was mounted on the top cover.
