For all you Grendel owners, what is your typical shot groups (100 yards)? Was there a break in period until you started observing tighter groups?

Thanks!!!

I've seen you on the Grendel Forum, that would probably be the best place to ask.
From my experience, initially I bought 200 rounds of 123 Lapua AA factory ammo and was getting about 1.5 - 1.75 5 shot groups at 100 yards and about 3" - 4" at 200 hundred (that was with a crappy scope and single stage Bushmaster stock trigger) on my 24" Overwatch. I certainly was not very happy with that, but figured that the barrel would need a break in. After two hundred rounds, it wasn't getting any better, so I upgraded the trigger to 2 stage CMC and bought a better scope and 100 rounds of 120 Nosler and 200 rounds of 123 Lapua. My groups shrank to 1.25" with the 120 Nosler at 100 yards and about 3" at 200. The new 123 batch was inconsistant, sometimes sub-MOA at both 100 and 200, sometimes not.
When 129 Hornady came out, I bought 40 rounds and to this day that is my favorite factory round. This is the report right after I shot it the first time (1.6 at 200 yards).

With the 24" I generally shoot 200 yards and on occasion longer, and average about 1.3" to 1.5" 5 shot group at 200 with the 129 Hornady. Some groups are tighter, some worse, but not by much. I have also learned not to clean the barrel as much as I used to, I wait till accuracy drops before I clean and I seem to do better. I really need to get into re-loading, because I have a feeling that some of the factory ammo may have been inconsistant, especially the 123 Lapua.

C.G: Thanks for the input. You hit it right on the money. The 123 lapua is inconsistent. I am planning to burn all my 123 lapuas and load my self. I have been loading for 3 months now and have found loads for .223 and 6.8rifles that matches my rifle's liking. Just placed an order for the 129, 107 and 108 gr bullets from Sinclair. Your the only person that has a AR15 6.5G rifle on this forum?

There are at least two more, but Alzheimer's is kicking in and I don't remember who it is without doing search.

From what I've been reading about the 6.5 Grendel, it seems to be an awesome round.

The performance is outstanding compared to the .223 and it even hangs with the mighty .308 out to 1000 yards.

This truely makes for an incredible performing rifle in the AR15 package.

I was looking for a true 1000 yard semi-auto rifle in the AR series. I was lucky enough to have purchased a couple of AR15's before the AW ban but I only got a M1A as my longer range piece. I always regretted not getting an AR-10 back then and I've tried to deal with that in various ways. I tricked out my M1A with a JAE-100 stock, Brookfield mount & Leupold Mark4 M3; but it's STILL not an AR rifle. It doesn't have the handling, the ergonomics, or the flexibility of the AR series. :(

I even bought an Hesse/Vulcan OLL to create a neteured AR-10 but that is a poor substitute.

But now, with the 6.5 Grendel, I can finally have a 1000 yard AR series rifle! :)

Cool, post it asap!

BTW, I finally ordered my re-loading stuff, so hopefully my groups will be more consistant.

That sounds great!

Which did you go with, the 19" or the 24"?

I'm leaning towards the 24" myself since this will be a LONG Range rig. :)
