My search for a word to describe a person or group that seeks to oppress our fundamental 2A civil rights continues. I first presented the Latin wordGravo, but it didn't pass muster. Now, I have found another:

Noun

Hostis (genitive hostis); m, third declension
(singular)
1. an enemy of the state, a stranger

Hostēs m
(plural)
1. the enemy

As an example in usage:

1. The Hostis yelled at me for UOC.

2. The Hostis in congress tried to pass a new gun control law.

Note that when used as a plural, it is pronounced with a long 'e': Hostēs I think that pronouncing it so that it sounds like a variation of 'hostile' would be appropriate.

So, what say you? Does Hostis work better than Gravo?

I prefer Nazi. It describes them, and everyone understands it. Not to mention the fact that it happens to be politically apropos...

I agree with you 100%, but the term gets thrown around a lot these days. I am searching for something new that can be tattoo'd to the anti-gun crowd. I like that Hostis describes an enemy of the state. Pretty much sums up their efforts.

"hostiles" would be more appropriate.

I like how you had to make two whole threads to ask a single question.

I don't care for the name calling and stereotyping aspects of gun forums. It's not helpful and it makes you look stupid. Gun control supporters range from very well intentioned citizens that mainly disagree with us over statistics all the way over to people who see it as a threat to the government's control.

Let's not make it personal. We're sorting this disagreement out in court like civil people do.

LMFAO!

Hostis, heteronymically, sounds too much like:
