Papa Nambu - with so many good weapons to choose from, why did they continue this line of pistols? (Not withstanding National pride)

First one is from an Hanyang 88 Rifle. Second is from an Enfield 22.

Huh, forgot I took this one:

I'm not copying the pic of the Mosin above, it just happens to be the same angle. I took that a few months ago on the day I brought her home.

Excuse my ignorance...but what is that? I'm confused with the Springfield and Beretta stuff on it. Garand I'm guessing...but that'd be C&R??? M14/1A?

Beautiful piece you have there...I want one!

Beretta made some Garands. I think in the 60s.

The BM59, no? Like an M1a only on the ban roster?

Oh, yeah. They made Garands with detachable mags, didn't they?

After Googling: Yep, that's what it is:

http://world.guns.ru/assault/as54-e.htm

But in that article, it says they also made straight-up Garands under license before the BM59.

Beretta made regular Garands too. And they made some chambered in 7.62 NATO (which I would guess are about the same as the SA in .308 Winchester. I couldn't tell you the years, though. I got the info from The Complete Garand but the book sometimes gives info that doesn't always make sense. Like Beretta did rebuilds/new builds in the late 40's using old Winchester tooling. Then its ays later that they made new ones in the 60's. And in the meantime, they were developing BM-59 in the 50s. It makes my head hurt.

That's a Springfield Armory M1 Garand that was converted by Beretta into a BM59 in 1963.

It would have seen military use at least twice... once as a Garand, and another as a BM59 before it was imported. Since it doesn't have any import marks, it would most likely be pre-68.

So it's an interesting piece, and it's sort of a C&R, or at least, it was. lol

Is it an M44?

I see the laminated stock, and IIRC, the 1 in triangle means it was an export to... East Germany?

Yup... East German M44, that was not only proof tested, but accuracy proofed as well. :)

Spreewerke with no date? Weird....

Lester

Spreewerke pistols never had date, only Walthers and Mausers did. So what's unusual? Anybody?

What's unusual about this P38?

No Waffenamt / German Police Acceptance stamps?? (Eagle over Swastika in various types).

It might have left the factory from someone physcially bringing it to the United States without it being intended for police use, it was a commercial import sale here in the United States at that time, or was found in a safe area of storage at the factory after Speerwerke was destroyed.
